Been Around the Block
Ok so before i go anywhere im just putting this out there, Yes im 18 and yes my next bike is going to a big ol' Touring bike. (get your laughs in now) Ok now onto the details, My current bike is a 1982 Yamaha Virago 750, Its nice but i want to do longer trips, something a little larger for my frame, i want a radio. I have had my truck for sale for a long time so a few days ago i put in the ad will trade for touring bike. after alot of shit offers, i was offered a 1983 Yamaha Venture XVZ1200 with 24000 miles plus a 1966 Suzuki B100P, I am very interested in this trade (i attached a few pictures below of these two bikes) I know the venture has problems with 2nd gear going out and possible frame issues. The other Bike i was just offered today is a 1984 Honda Goldwing GL1200 Aspencade with 53000 miles. I have yet to see any pictures but he said it is in good shape and runs good. I know these bikes tend to have stator problems. And I am aware that they are both big bikes, expensive insurance, both will require work being older. But as you guys may know, I am more than willing to take on a small project. I am going to look at both, but does anyone have an opinion one way or the other.

Re: I want your opinion on my next bike

I have bought quite a few bikes in the last couple years and yamahas never stop amazing me with all the crap they put on their bikes. There is a relay/switch/another electrical device for everything... your throttle grip rubber is getting low so the sensor kicks in and doesn't allow the bike to fire (a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point) 2nd gear and improper shimming of starter motors is also a common failure in older yamahas. If you can work on them and are good with electrical and just bypass sensors and switches as they fail then you should be ok with that one... the good old bloop, now that's a cool bike... you don't quite have 2500 in trade value there though...the honda goldwing I've seen a lot of these go to 90-100k or more without major trouble. As long as service was completed properly. With that mileage if it's very nice on all other areas you probably have a decent trade... just my opinion from my experience. ;)

Well after months of looking and a few deals that fell through (the 1983 venture was a POS, the b100p was ok but no title) I finally picked up my new bike today!!!!!!! 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale. 1300cc V4 (think de-tuned V-MAX) at 97HP that will do 135MPH in 4TH gear & lift the front tire of this 800lb bike ;D (just because I can doesn't mean I will. Probably will never past 80 or so). Anyways I got it for $2050 (the Kuryakyn pegs I bought when I picked it up today for an extra $50) 33k miles, overall good shape, needs some work before spring (thread to come soon). Its got the bells and whistles, radio, CB, onboard air suspension, cruise control, etc

Got caught in the snow storm on the way back for the last hour of the drive so she got VERY dirty so excuse that in the pictures :whistling: But I got her in the garage and got as much of the snow off.

Now for some pictures
