I wish I hadnt heard that noise

Tried to go out and fill the tank this evening to no avail. She fired off as usual but since I didnt have the throttle set so she died from being cold (nothing unusual there) Went back to crank again and I swear I heard something break inside. Sounded like aluminum breaking in half. Motor still turns over no problem just no fire. Compression seems OK but I do not have a gauge (pulled the plugs and used my finger to plug while turning over best I could do at the moment). I kicked it over a few times to see if the compression was there that way too and something hung up inside (kick wouldn't kick) but hit the starter and it rolls right over. Question is where do I start? Will pulling the pan give me an idea of any carnage or should I just go o in and start from the top down? CB350F BTW
Thanks in advance for any advice

I would pull off the clutch cover and hope it's just something broken in the kickstart gear. Don't try and turn it over until you find out why something is stuck.
