"Hello my freaky darlings."
As you know, it has been a couple of years since I graced these (virtual) hallowed halls.
Kelly and I have been taking care of my Mom, who had emphysema and dementia, for the last few years. That had become a full time 24/7/365 job for me in the later months. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer just before last Christmas, and passed about 5 weeks later.
We had about two full weeks after the funeral to R&R, and then Kelly's Dad had open heart surgery. Kelly was traveling back and forth to St. Louis, taking turns caring for him with her two Sisters for a few months. Until he took a turn for the worse.
He had kidney stones and an infection, which damaged his kidneys to the point it was hard for him to process his heart meds. So we moved him into our house to care for him through his last few months.
He passed about three weeks ago in hospice house, after getting sent there from the local hospital.
About four weeks ago, we had a tornado pass through our neighborhood felling five trees in our yard, two of which hit our house. So I have been dealing with the insurance company and the contractors, while Kelly handled the final details of her Dad's passing.
In between all of that, I had my bum right hip replaced on the first week of June. So the weird geometry that I have lived with since 1976 is gone.
I have noticed improvements in my gate and balance, as well as less pain in my knees and back.
I sold my red BMW 1200 GS two weeks before my hip replacement, but I still have Stifler's Mom and her knock-kneed, freckle-faced little cousin.
What few minutes I have spent online, I have been on ADVrider (the locals are a bunch of old farts too), and ARFCOM learning......stuff.
It's good to be back in DTT, but the place seems a bit quieter than it used to be. Are all the kids on the book of faces, and snapping their chats, and gramming instantly?
