I'm looking for a pr. of rear shocks(305-320mm)for my CB125S

I've got a nice little 81' Honda CB125S and it has stock Honda rear shocks... I like a small bike ::) :D
I'm 200lbs. and I sometimes take long rides on the bike w/ luggage which brings it to capacity load max(300lb.)and I want a pr. of 305-320mm eye-eye length shocks that're better than stock. I want them to look 'basic' but handle the bumps and curves good.I've tried Hagon shocks on my CB350 and they're ok but the movement is a little stiff for me.
Shoot me some ideas :)

Have you thought about YSS units? they are pretty good i've heard, don't think there anything fancy just like you say to handle the bumps. Cheap enough too, try these guys www.brooksuspension.co.uk I know they cater for YSS, worth a try!

Yeah,I want to navigate a little more through their site and find a pr. that fit's my bike;they look good.
Do you use them ?

YSS are good shocks. Nicely made and well priced for their feature sets.

wheels3,
I'm just guessing that the 1980-84' CG125 may have similar dimensions as my 1981' CB125S over here in the States.I looked up part# RD222-310P-12 from Brookes for the YSS rear shocks and want to ask if you think there would be a reasonably priced way for them to ship them to me? My shocks measure 305mm eye-eye

OK,
I went onto their website and found the contact information and spoke w/ them and it is indeed the same part# YSS rear shocks for my 1981(they say '1980' but it's the same shock)Honda CB125S as it is for the Honda CG125 w/ the exception of needing a stronger pr. of springs because of my 210lb. weight and how I load the bikes luggage rack up usually. YSS pt.#RD222-310P.
Brookes website in the UK advertise them for 119 British Pounds(which is about $182) and over here in NJ in the States they want $239 for the same thing.I wonder if any member here on DTT would ship them out to me from the U.K. for the better price using a less expensive(Royal?) Post service ? :)
I wonder if I have any other rear shocks options for small bikes like my CB125 made(or distributed)here in the USA ?

I read your experience w Hagons on your 350 has been less than desirable.

http://davequinnmotorcycles.com

Dave is a nice guy to work with and will build Hagons to whatever specs you require. I called him w bike specs, rider weight, riding style. He employed his 30+ years experience building shocks to assemble exactly what I needed for both my 72, CL100 and my CB360. We spoke a couple times about the 100 cause this was the first pair he had built for a CL100.

He got it right the first time on both bikes.
But, in the event its not exactly the ride you desire, you can send them back twice for free re-do. And they have 3 (on the fly) adjustment settings. For those times you load the bike up heavy, ride 2 up or take her off road.

Hi trek,
Nice looking CL100 :) ! is that the one you call 'piglet' ? :D When I spoke w/ Matt at Sparkmoto he mentioned your bike for the electrical parts he sent to you.
You are happy with the Hagon's from Dave Quinn ? How was the fit of the Hagon shocks and springs on the chain guard ?

I added a second washer to the shock mount to push it out a 1/16"

And in all the riding, vibrations, bumps. The shock hasnt even marred the finish on the guard.

(I do recall considering bending the guard mount a bit if needed but I haven't needed to.)

but it fits close. I could easily slip a credit card in there.

On the right side...I also added a couple flat washers. Easily have 3/8" clearance on the exhuast. You wont have the same issue, I got a high pipe.

Yep I am delighted w Sparckmoto stuff. I converted the 100 to 12v system using a CB350 stator and coil. Got his 12v R/R, led dash bulbs, turn flasher and his diode setup to make signals work w leds in there. On the 360 I have the same R/R, led headlamp, dash leds. I am delighted w everything he sells. I was the first to buy his 6v to 12v step up transformer. (for adding 12v leds to a 6v system) but havent gotten round to messing w it yet.

trek,
I looked at those pics you posted and wasn't sure about this but it almost looks like the lower welded-on shock 'eye' on that Hagon shock is offset to one side? That would make clearance around the chainguard much easier. :)
I installed another aftermarket pr. of vintage shocks on my bike previously but decided I didn't like air shocks.I had a welder/friend work with me to reshape/bend-in to accept a larger shock spring around the chainguard while also lifting it up a good bit in the back so that later i can install a set of 520 sprockets and chain. We changed the mounting place of the stock 81' CB125S chainguard rear mount(it was directly attached to the lower shock mount!)to be forward of the rear shock rather than directly behind/attached to it.I would get some pics up but it's been raining so much around here in the Pittsburgh area that I can't get the cover off my bike outside my apt. building to do that.
I like how the chainguard fits w/ it's rear mount on your bike and other 1st gen. CB125S models, they changed over to this 'behind the shock' rear mount starting w/ the 1979' CB125S.

Grcamna5, I have air shocks also and wanted to swap them out with could mainly for the looks. I haven't taken them off yet, but anything I should watch out for?

I'm not sure "what to watch out for" but prefer just a standard pr. of quality rear shocks that will be better than stock;I just don't want to have keep checking/changing what pressure the air shocks have.. I like the inner dampers to be set for what I need;I'm still looking for a pr.
What bike do you need them for? and what have you tried-out so far ?

I know this is an old thread, but I have tried a pr. of Hagons and the progressive springs are too stiff for the stock front-end(I need straight-rate springs for equal compression and rise, front and rear) which I'm using And,Dave Quiin is now out of business.. I have changed my swing-arm to a bit longer OEM Honda 1984' CB125S which gives me a 50.0 inch wheelbase,I prefer it.
My rear shock needs have changed dimensions now as I'm running a worn-out pair of stock 1984' CB125S shocks that feel great and are fully compatible with my stock front-end,although they're worn-out and No Longer Available from Honda..
They are between 330-335mm eye-eye in length and those are what I'm now looking for.Do you think the YSS shocks would be the same dimensions/spring rate/damper body length, etc. as the 84' OEM Honda shocks? I ask because the stock 84' CB125S shock damper bodies are just the correct length for me running an 18" rim and 3.00x18" tire(stock is 3.00x17")to give me just enough clearance to keep from hitting the tire on full bump-stop on my modified stock 81' CB125S stock rear fender. I can't find any NOS Honda OEM shocks anywhere..

Maritime,
I saw an add online a few years back for a pair of YSS rear shocks(I'm certain that I want a pr. of YSS brand shocks) that had that repro look as if they were modeled after the stock 84' CB125S shocks:all chrome w/ chrome springs and a narrow O.D. spring and lower damper body to fit the chaingaurd area as good as OEM.I just wish there was someone who has contact info of a person to order them. They have good reviews,a quality shock made in Indonesia.
