Installing Wheel bearings

I will attempting the install of wheel bearings on my CB350K4 this weekend, I have read on here that you can use a socket to tap the bearing back into place as long as you tap on the outer race. I know it sounds dumb, but how do you use the socket to tap the bearing? Do you attach an extension to the socket and tap this thus applying equal pressure, or do you flip the socket over so the non open side makes contact with the bearing surface and just tap on the edge of the socket working your way around the bearing. Maybe I am putting way too much thought into this, but I don't want to mess the bearings up, as I am itching to get it back together and ride.

Thanks

You can do the socket trick. It will also help if you throw the bearing into the freezer before installing it to help it shrink a little. If you still have the old bearing, you can use that to pound in the new bearing. PVC pipe of the same size as the outer race should work too.
