Invisible Helmet

I remember that in the sci-fi book "Snow Crash" by Neil Stephenson, the skateboard messengers wore suits that had an inflatable "collar" that covered their entire head in case of accident. This reminded me of that - very cool.

Personally, I'd feel pretty vulnerable without the reassuring feel of a helmet. I don't know how the Harley guys can stand riding with sunglasses and a bandana (sausage creatures in training?) but I'm probably stirring the pot bringing that up...

I love when people push and invent. It's the way forward.

Personally though, at this point, I'd just wear my helmet. Much cooler (temp wise) and FAR lighter I would guess.

Still love the idea and someday there may be a place for it all.

I doubt it would be lighter.. its fabric rather than plastic and foam. This would just be fabric and a micro-processor. And both of those are getting better everyday. Definitely pretty cool. But I agree temp wiseI think a bike helmet would be better. This would be good in climates where the video was taken(higher latitudes).

Yeah...........that's what I was saying...........bike helmet = lighter and cooler.

Cool idea and can see something in a few more years but makes me wonder if your head would bounce like a ball on the road ? Ill stick to my lids till they dont sell them !

With my luck I'd be the one guy that hit a pothole causing the damn thing to pop open and send me into oncoming traffic.

Very interesting concept! :)

The cost/benefit breakdown interests me. I just don't see it.

okay.... who let them out of the kitchen?

I know you're just kidding. But the first 2/3 of the vid does seem to be a "girl power" advertisement. I could've done without the whole girls can do it too rah rah shit and just shown the product.

Kinda like how in this day of equality they preassume they have something to prove instead of just assuming equality?
All Iknow is I've worked planty of jobs makin just as much as women but as soon as there is a heavy box to lift equality doesn't exist.

I wouldn't ever rely on a microprocessor to release a helmet for me. Airbags in my gear as a secondary measure? Sure. But Nothing beats a full face.

As for using it on a bicycle, I'd still prefer a standard helmet (mine is stupid light and comfortable, most are these days), and I would fear releasing the helmet accidently (I ride pretty aggressively).
