Whats up guys and gals.. Just purchased a 1985 GPZ 750 .. The bike is in great condition for its age.. needs some cosmetic face lift on but nothing to really complain about. Bought the bike for $875 in perfect running condition... recent carb work, new tires, just registered for another year. The bike was a steal for that price I think. Especially out here on the west coast.

Anyway.. the only issue I would like to fix right away is the seal on the gas cap lid doesn't quite seal properly.. i'm sure its just worn out from old age. I know the I can replace this for cheap.. not worried about that.. but I would like to "remedy" it if possible before i can get to the parts store.

Even though I didn't fill the tank up.. because i knew this was an issue.. there is still a considerable amount of gas that comes out from underneath cap while riding.. not a big deal. but i'd like to not wreak of gasoline in the office tomorrow

any home remedies i can try to fix this with before i make a trip to the parts store in a few days?

thanks guys..

Might be missing the gasket. You can make a new one out of cork

looks like i'll probably be headed to the dealer tomorrow on my lunch break.. upon closer inspection.. some of the other little rubber gaskets are dried out and broke apart..

I got a strainer thing for a sink drain with a seal that had a grove in it so it wraped around the stainer. cut the seal off thimmed it to wrap around the seal plate in the cap. super glued the ends and put it on four months now still good

Yep, I have used many a lowes plumbing washer for gas cap seals over the years. They make one that fits perfect for the screw in Honda caps a-la cb160, cb125s, '77 cb400f, etc.

If your rubber bits are intact, but just a bit stiff. Silicone spray or original GoJo hand cleaner can soften them up and improve the seal.
