Is this REALLY a "factory original race seat"????

jeez...that's a lot of money for a seat.

I could see having it if I had the rest of a CB77 catalog racer, but otherwise its just an expensive seat.

I think it could very well be a factory race seat, and UGLY????? WHAT! I like it, I think it was made to be set under a speed hump though, like a small rounded cowl over the back.

Well it looks like an original Race Kit seat but it looks too fresh so it's possibly a repro.

There was never a cowl on the back. That's how they were made and raced in 1961 at the TT. Very stylish seat and very "different".

Like I said, I stand corrected.... looks legit, and yeah, I suppose if there was a cowl over the back end it might not look too bad.... Still pretty big $$ for a seat....

If that's the "original" box it came it sure does look good for 40 or so years old, the scotch tape on the back is also new.

Honda did make a solo cowl seat, on the GB500. But I doubt you'll find one for sale anytime soon.

Oh those GB500's are neat, too bad there rare and kinda spendy. I donno if i could bring myself to sit on that seat? I really hope the cafe's dont do the 1000% inflation because its cafe crap. And BTW that seat is kinda ugly would be ok with a pod or fairing behind it.

That would miss the point. The point of fitting a Race Kit seat is that it's a genuine period accessory. If you want a seat that looks much like every other seat, no point in buying a Kit part and modifying it. Just enjoy it for its unique styling and rarity - not 1300 bucks rare though!

It's more than likely a repro.
It's....close....to a CYB seat but as noted too fresh looking.
There's a kat in Thailand that sells all manner of repro and cafe seats on ebay.
Even the pan and hardware look new. There's no way unless it was hermetically sealed for the metal work NOT to show some age......

I doubt it's genuine. The paper it's wrapped in doesn't have that 40 year old look. It looks a lot like the quality of a seat I bought for a Honda C200 from Tiawan. Is that the bag for it hanging on the post? I could be wrong, but that's a lot of $'s for something you have doubts about.

Actually the seat is real and not a re pop and here is why in the photos included below you will see that the original seats have red foam and the repos don’t. They have a different looking rear bracket and have a material in the seat called Alacantara. From the repop seats I have seen from Vietnam and Thailand are much cruder, no part number on the pan, yellow foam and vinyl center. I have been looking for this seat for a long time to build a cyb clone, but the average seat in bad shape sells for $300And in decent shape about $700-800. The seat is real and not a repop I must have looked at 100 auctions for this seat on yahoo Japan auctions and there are other seats this clean. That is not saying the guys in Thailand or Vietnam could not do it, I just don’t believe they would put the small details in because it does not make them a profit. But, there is no way it is worth $1300.00, but there is a sucker born every minute. You will also notice the number of holes on the bottom of the seat our different, the ones on ebay are even cheaper and use a different rear bracket.
Thanks,
Kirk
