Isle of Man TT

Hey, sorry for not posting for a bit. Big change in life and now no longer living on the island :-( Wifey got a top job down south so we are now living near southampton. Already got plans for going back for next years TT though. Also just picked up a new bike to rebuild and get ready for the trip!

Nice vids, think i have some of the side car boys somewhere from by ballacraine

Hey Sparky.....good to hear from you. Good news about wifey's job, and I am sure you will enjoy the tropical weather of the south.....but leaving the IOM must have hurt a little? It's such a beautiful place. Everybody should have to go at least once to appreciate it !
We have a day out in our bus every year, when we tour the Island looking for new and interesting places........usually things I've found on an OS map.
We discovered the chasms......scarey ! How high? Bloody hell that's high.
And....some other beautiful little spots, like Fleshwick Bay, and the waterfall at glen Maye.....oh, and we had a poke round at Port Soderick, where we saw some basking sharks quite close to the shore...

Anyways.....what's this bike you are going to rebuild? Will there be a thread?

Hey,
Yeah it wasnt easy to leave the island but it made sense to be back near family and everything. There are some great places to find on the island if you go a little off the beaten track. Only regret is i didnt get to the bike museum up near ballaugh. Kept meaning too but something else always came up :(

New project is a 79 MZ TS250. Have started a thread for it and made a bit of a start on relocating the battery to inside the back of where the tail will be. Going to build myself a new wiring loom as someone has had a good go at the current one :D. Should be fun though.

Museum at Ballaugh?

That's news to me too !

I have been to the A.R.E. collection in Kirkmichael....I think the guy is called Anthony East, or similar....and has opened his collection to the public. He has a beautiful house on the left as you leave the village, just before the petrol station. He has a superbly presented collection which is free to view...
just leave a donation to charity !
I heard that the guy who owned the Bungalow museum lives at Santon,
(as does James Toseland I believe), and he still has lots of stuff which you can see if you knock his door.

The MZ sounds fun....they are a bit cult now....and there must be a lot of good stuff about since the race formula was so successful.....look forward to seeing that !

ok maybe calling it a museum was a little generous ;-) from what i was told its a barn with lots of old bikes in various states of repair. ARE is cool and a loverly collection. Was pointed to him by the guys in the Peel bike shop when i was trying to source 6v bulbs for my KE project.

MZ will hopefully turn out nice. Need to do some reading up on exhausts as i wanted something like a reverse mega on it but being a 2 stroke im not sure whats possible ( trying to balance looks and gain performance ) but current standard exhaust doesnt look like your average 2 stroke expansion type either?!?

Think Toseland also has a house in port soderick but not 100%. I tried to get the IOM government to rent me the old bike museum after it closed as i was wanting to create a kind of mini ace cafe up there with live music etc ( no neighbours to annoy ) but they wouldnt have any of it :(

What a shame you couldn't get the old museum....what the hell will they do with it?

Let me know if you need any help manufacturing a pipe...as you know, we make expansions. Given the dimensions of the cones, we can create them for you....

TT 3D

A good few months have passed since we last mentioned the 3D film...at which point you guys in the US hadn't seen hide nor hair of it, but I believe that's all changed now.....

What do you think of it?

you make expansions Mmmmm, would you like me to put any info on my other 2 forums I go on? I modderate the 2 stroke sections on both, http://www.oldskoolperformance.com/ and http://oldskoolsuzuki.info/ proberbly about 7000 members world wide between them 8)

Well that would be extremely civil of you Surplus !

A link to our website would probably be the way to go.................

We currently do almost all our stuff for the 500 twin, but we do make rearsets for the Gt750....and we will be getting stuck in to 750 chambers in the new year. They are mostly done, just need finishing. We are quite close to completing a 3-1 for the 750 too, which we are really excited about. Once they are done, we will be posting on here and Sundial....but any other publicity you can offer would be very gratefully received.

Isle of Man TT 2012 May 26 Practice Week

I'm looking into being there for a couple of nights. Anyone have some suggestions on hotels/beds/pubs?

You have left it very late to secure accomodation for this years' TT Dwarf. I know the Island extremely well, but would struggle to recommend anywhere at this late stage.
How are you at camping?

Can't camp! I introduced my wife to camping with a hell of a weekend in a leaky tent with a newborn and a toddler in diapers! She will NEVER go camping again ( it was HER family reunion too ). I did see availability at a
temporary hotel:

I will only be a spectator this visit. Got to get out one year with a bike for MAD Sunday. Nice to see they have been padding the walls in some corners now. I've raced Flat Track and Speedway, and I know the difference between hitting an unmovable object and something with a bit of give! It is saving lives and serious injury!

There is absolutely no sign of it and I fear we won't get it at all. Not surprising really - the vast majority of bikers here have no clue where or what the TT is.

of course i would never suggest downloading it from a torrent site like piratebay.. that wold be illegal.. like doing a ton.

Wow, that looks pretty good !
It's bloody expensive, but on the up side, situated in Nobles Park it's not far from the action.

Mad sunday is not what it used to be IMHO. The whole day used to be a feast of motorcycle shanannigans, but in more recent years it has sadly been diluted to conform with health and safety concerns. The Mountain section of the TT course from Ramsey to Douglas, (about 8 miles or so), used to be made "one way" for the day, which meant the world and his mother were up there trying to be the new John Mac. However, as keeping the tourists travelling in one direction reduced accidents, the authorities adopted the "one way over the mountain" for the entire TT fortnight. So in a kind of a way, every day is now Mad Sunday" !
Douglas prom also used to be a special area for stunt monkeys to showcase their talents, and there were wheelies, burnouts, stoppies and just about everything else imaginable going on involving motorcycles, with riders in all states of dress and undress, and this all took place with a heavy, but tolerant police presence, which created an absolutely carnival atmosphere, and a special evening to end Mad Sunday. But this has all been stopped long since, and sadly Mad Sunday is now relatively sensible sunday.
However, TT fortnight is the most fantastic festival for fans of bike sport, and every biker needs to experience it at least once !
