It's a thin line between love and hate

Hahahah...typical scenario for me...

Week 1:

Friend: "You just got your new (old) bike, let's go riding!"
Me: "hmmmm probably not, not familiar with these vintage bikes and need make sure everything is good on it and re-do some of the seals and gaskets."

Week 2: Got lazy and didn't do anything...

Week 3:

Friend: "Bike ready? Let's go riding!"
Me: "yeah i got it up and running pretty well now! but I'm hearing a lot of noise coming from the top end...not sure what it is...better ask the forum guys and make sure it's normal before I ride and blow it up"

Week 4:

Friend: "Get that problem sorted out? Let's go riding!"
Me: "Yeah ok, cool let's go...it was just piston slap...I heard wiseco pistons are pretty loud"

Go for a ride...didn't check gas...ended up having to mix the gas and 2-stroke oil at the pump...without good measuring. Fouled plugs...bike stalled like 3 times on the ride...meh.

Week 5:

Friend: "let's go riding!"
Me: "Eh I took some things a part to clean up and paint..."

Week 6:

Friend: "bet your bike is starting to look better! let's go riding!"
Me: "eh...I dont have a seat right now...I took the stock one off and ground off the tabs on the frame..."

Week 7:

Friend: "got your seat done? Let's go riding!"
Me: "eh...I ended up taking the front end a part as well since I want to rebuild the forks...."

etc etc.

Stretch that out to week 100 and thats where Im at...

I just got back from a week at Bonneville and have been racing for the best part of 50 years. You haven't a clue what frustration is. : - )
hahahaha

Hoof: Started drag racing in 1956 so I may have ya beat a few years. I dont think I ever get frustrated unless its operator error if u know what I mean--missed shift, poor mental prep, etc. Machines break.Period. Great time by the way-the sidecar must have really been humming.bj

My biggest frustration is I put something down, turn around to pick it up and its gone. If you build it and it breaks that's your fault. Yes! The sidecar was flying. I just picked up tree 750 Commando engines for next years attack on the 750 records. I know what I'll be doing over the winter.

Last time I got really pissed off with the bike I was trying to get the points housing off and it wouldn't budge. Looked around and couldn't find a reason. Ended up tapping it with a hammer, then harder, a little harder, then BEATING IT WITH THE HAMMER. Until it broke off. Then I found a scew that I hadn't seen from the angle I was at.

Lesson learned. If shit isn't working out and I get angry, put it down and read about it then come back. Recently though I order parts and get them on and find more parts that I need that I thought I had. It's a vicious circle and I'll probably be riding it in snow by the time it's done.

I'm beginning to think it's haunted. I had to track down the previous owners sister cause the gent was deceased. She told me an interesting story about how whenever the guy would put a part on the bike his father would take one off and hide it cause he didn't want his son riding the bike.

Hoof,
BTW, that avatar looks like something out of a batman Movie.

Congrats on the new records

Hoof: U go much faster and u may need to add some rear downforce to keep ur arse from going airborne.Lol.bj

There's enough lead in my ass to keep it firmly planted!

I think the love is always there. We just get frustrated when the bikes we love, don't reciprocate! ;)

Just curious, by this statement, do you mean people are stealing or "borrowing" tools/parts and shit? I really didn't think that sort of activity really goes on there, especially amongst fellow riders (should never go on though). It doesn't at my MTB events.

Or am I misreading and you are talking about the speed you put down on your first pass. Not sure of the format of your events. Sorry for the ignorance; just wondering out of curiosity. I was always under the impression that Bonneville was full of folks focussed on upping their times and having a blast while doing it.

Always looked awesome. Never been there myself.

I'm thinking you must have meant the later.

^^^^^ No. I meant when working in my garage. I put a tool down and turn around a few minutes later and ts gone! I once put a magneto in a safe place in the garage and it took me two years to find it.

Bonneville is a place where everyone is focused on going fast and faster. And it is a hoot! But tools don't vanish there. You lend someone a tool and it always comes back. Its one of those places where theft doesn't exist. I spent a week there and never took the keys out of my truck. My tool box sat on my trailer and no one touched it.

yeah man i get in a working frenzy on multiple projects and tools just end up everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I have learned to focus on one thing at a time and set a white cloth out with tools i need take my time and put stuff away when i am done using it.

I have two large rollaways with top boxes and my tools are kept there. But all I have to do is take a tool from there, put it down beside where I'm working and it vanishes. Search for a few minutes and I find it. Its just annoying.

Hoof, I have the same problem except that I can't remember what I was working on either, so it doesn't really matter.

That's partly true because I have too many projects and I tend to drift from one to another. I go over to get a tool or part and pick up something from another project and that's it. First one long forgotten. :)

I need to simplify my life and dump some projects..
