Jumping across starter solenoid?

I have an 81 GS450. The electric starter button stopped working. No click in the relay at all. If I bump start the bike it will work gain, but let it sit for 30 mins no start again... I have eliminated the battery and starter by testing them individually. If I jump across the solenoid posts the starter cranks. Does this mean it is the Solenoid or could it still be the kill switch or clutch switch? The Starter solenoid is like $69 so I would like to make sure it is it before I order one.

Thanks

go to the solenoid and remove the wire that tells it to connect the two larger wires. There should be a smaller wire or wires somewhere going into the solenoid that sends the signal from the start button. Test if it receives a signal when the button is depressed. If not follow the wire backwards to the various kill switches. If it does work then your solenoid is caput.

For the most part, solenoids are a fairly universal part. Don't buy OEM unless you need to.
