Just ordered the old ebay special seat from Vietnam

Been Around the Block
I'll let everyone know how it turns out in the near future. I was searching on here and didn't see many reviews on these. Anyone have input or links to threads on here?

I did see a few threads with some who said the seats arrived great and some who said they arrived cheap and in poor condition. I sent a picture of a seat I wanted, so it will be interesting to see if it arrives like I want. Here is what I am going for

I'll let everyone know the time it takes to arrive, get some pics, and then some of it on bike with a review of installation and seat. I didn't even ask about a time frame, but I think it's safe to say it will be several weeks. If it works out it's money well spent, and that will free up my stock seat to do my own design on.

A friend of mine got one. She's happy with it, bolted right on to her CB200 with proper hardware to mount to the stock hinges and lock. A bit pricey for my tastes and I like to make my own, but like I said, she's happy with it.

Brendon got one from 'Viet' for his CB360, was well worth the money and delivery time
had to do a little work as it was for a CB350

For a 1971 CB350 twin. I asked him up front and he said he can do it for that specific bike. We will see how it goes. I think some people that had issues, had the issues because they bought the wrong stuff. So far super good communication. For under $300 if it fits, then it's a good deal considering an upholstery shop probably wants $100-150 to reupholster a seat, that won't be this profile.

Currently out of the country, but I got a message from a family member saying "Seat came from Vietnam, very nice looks brand new with a dull leather" I excited to see what it looks like. I'll post pics as soon as they send them to me.

Well seat photos are in..... but it appears he put it on a 1970 CB350 seat pan not a 1971. I will attach photos and my conversation with the seller. I specifically asked before I purchased if it was a direct bolt on for a 1971 CB350; "Is this a direct fit onto a CB350 or does it require further modification to fit a stock bike? My bike is a 1971 CB350 an it has the original seat with hinges and the piece that fits into the locking mechanism on the right side. Thanks"

Response was:

"Dear sir, I will make this style for your bike, please use the buy now option then make a note in your paypal payment that you want it for 1971 CB350T. I will make it for you. Thank you and we appreciate your business"

So what do you think on this seat pan? What year is it for, just to double check I'm not losing it?

Bottom line is does it fit? Is there a difference between the 1970 and 1971 seat that would cause it to not work? I wouldn't have guessed there would be a difference at all in that early a model.

Seat hinges on the 1970 were on the back of the seat, where the 1971 they moved to the left side with a latch on the right. Can you take a pic of it just sitting on the bike? I have a 71 and I've been looking at this same seat for months now.

I'm out of the country right now, so I'm nowhere near the bike or seat. That is why I was asking if this looked wrong, because I can only judge by pictures myself.

Like Dragonfish said, the hinges are different as well as the latch. That is why I specifically requested it for a 1971 with latching mechanism on the side.

I mean economically it's not really feasible to ship it back as shipping was $80+ one way. We'll see what the seller decides. If not anyone need a good seat for a 1970 CB350?? lol

Just to confirm though. you're not crazy. That does not look anything like my 71 seat pan. I literally had it in my hand a couple days ago.

Don't worry though, I've heard of this seller messing up before and making it right quickly. Let us know how it goes!

BTW, where are you?

I wouldn't mind if I had to do mild modification to fix it, but I did pay $300 bones for it, so I'd expect it to show up ready to bolt on. The seller seemed nice enough from the start, so hopefully he gives me some good options; although I doubt I can do anything to help out. I work overseas, the seat is in Georgia, my bike is in Canada. I pay the premium, because I don't have the luxury of time.

This is a 71 seat pan.

Thanks man. Sometimes I just like to triple confirm things due to the fact that I'm either tired or amped up on coffee, so I normally sit back or get a second opinion before I come to a conclusion. I'll keep everyone up to date.

It could be made to fit though , right? The mounting is different but the seat pan looks about the same.

Maybe if I can just sell this one to someone I can purchase a new one from the seller. So if anyone is interested I can have a family member ship it to you for whatever I paid for it + shipping and you'lll have no wait. I think I caught it on a 10% off thing too, so probably cheaper or same price as other items this seller has.

I think you have to have bolts coming out of the pan to attach the hinges and the two more bolts for the locking mechanism. You'd also have to grind off the back bolts, and add a spring. Lots of work.
