just bought my first bike today, a 1973 cb350..big surprise, it doesn't run as of now but, with a little help of a trusty manual and LOTS of curse words i think i should get it running soon (i hope tomorrow). i've never worked on a bike but, have built a car so, be prepared for some quetions. my digi camera is on the fritz but, i'll try to post some pictures of her in the next couple of days.
i have a question..how do you lower the bike?
everything else (tank, rearsets, seat, ect.) i can grasp a hold of and it kinda makes sense to me.
Front - slide the forks up through the clamp to lower the bike however much you want - though I think this won't work for some bikes with factory handlebars...

Problem with fiberglass tanks is they'll crack instead of dent in a crash... could mean gas everywhere... and fire everywhere there's gas.
They're used in race bikes, though... but I guess those guys have fire retardent gear on as well.
Long and short, if I came across a tank that was the style I wanted and at a good price I'd go for it, fiberglass or not (after my initial inspecton).
i've been thinking that i could go for a FG tank for now and then save up for a alloy tank from BCR when i become a millionaire...but im a tall, skinny, fucker and this is my first bike, im bound to drop it at least before then...so, no in the FG tank :'(
although, Oregon does get cold in the winter months and a fire could warm me up!
tomorrow..battery box, wires, rear wheel and motor? end result just a frame so, i can start hackin' it up!!
sad part is that i have to go back to work on wednesday.. but, i got my bike now and im just gunna keep plukin' away at it til its done (im hoping in about two months)

i think that would be awesome! a ride..i don't think im my bike well be done until September/October time..any one ride there bikes in oregon in fall?..i plan on it just wondering.
how do you get the "pin" out of the swingarm for the rear wheel? i've been using a hammer with some success but, now it has come a stop. i wouldn't be so freaked out if i had torn a part a bike before but, its my first...so a little help would be cool.
Being an old bike, that swinger rod will likely be rusted and gunked in there pretty good. You'll need to clean it, put new brass bushings in the swinger, reinstall rod and lube it with grease. Should have a grease fitting on either one end of the rod, both ends of the rod, or in the top or bottom of the pivot tube part of the swinger.
A twin makes the best cafe bike. I just got mine running and flying down the road. Nothing like the sound of an old thumper or a twin. Even these little cc bikes can be made to sound cool. My little 400 puts HD's to shame, and does it all while looking freakin sexy!

lets say he wanted to get the brass bushings from somewhere that isnt selling them as motorcyle bushings. where would you find the size of the bushings that you need?

rudy...thanks. thats what the kinda answer i was looking for...i just wanted to make sure i wasn't going to brake the rod or something stupid like that.
what kind of exhaust do you have? i've been poking around on the net and i really can't find any..so i have thought about going with the stock headers and using the jc whitney uni muffler..or a hacked up CL exhaust...im kinda leaning towards the CL exhaust. but, i don't konw
what do you guys think, what exhaust should i use?
