So, we had Karen Porter, (director of the upcoming Cafe Racer Documentary: http://www.tonupthefilm.com/) and Steve Berry, (formerly of Top Gear: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Berry_(presenter) ), come and hang out at the shop yesterday...
What a really cool bunch with lots of stories.. intesting secrets about Stig!!.. ;D
(Sorry about the crappy iphone pics....)
Unsurprisingly..Steve admited that in all his years in the motorcycle business, and all the bikes he's ever rode, my XS650 is the most beautiful bike hes ever seen.. ;D..(
Apparently the original "black" Stig was just a buddy of Steve, Perry.. cant remember the last name... who was suppose to be "exposed" at the end of the season..(apparently in his contract).. but the character got so popular through the season that the producers changed their minds and revoked the clause, (there was an internal battle), and basically had to fire the guy..
They decided that they liked the "masked" driver and despite the rumors that they were celeberity drivers, most of them were actually just regular "joes" that they paid cheap daily rate.
Steve said that at that time, if you throw a rock into a crowd you'll probabbly hit an unemployed race car driver... The producers apparently like the novel idea of hiring and firing different "Stigs" and paying next to nothing if the driver didnt work out...
Well, that was actually my theory! I figured it was just different racecar drivers, and that is why the Stig is not unmasked! But to hear it from the horses mouth is comforting!
