Hi All,

Been mostly lurking around for a while, enjoying the awsome projects people have posted up!

Im from Melbourne, Australia and have been riding bikes for about 10 years or so but have never really attempted anything more mechanical than changing the oil.

Time to change that.... ive picked up what im fairly sure is a Kawasaki GA5... not sure on the year, but im going to take the frame/engine numbers to a Kawasaki dealers soon and see if they can tell me. Here she is as purchased:

Dont have an exact plan for it yet, but love these two efforts with little Kawasaki 2-stroke singles...

Welcome man ! I am already in love with that tank, and the paint color. Cool bike !

Yeah i think i will keep the "candy gold" colour.

Pulled off that ugly-arse chain guard/enclosure... full of 40 years or so of dirt, grease, dry grass and spiders!

Biggest issue for me at the moment is that the kick-start shaft and lever/pedal is missing, which on this bike i believe requires splitting the crank case to install a new one. The bike came with a spare engine that has the shaft, so i will dismantle that.

Have been pulling a few bits and peices off... these 70s phillips head screws are a pain, strip out so easily... i think i will replace them with allen key bolts where possible?

Plan to strip everything off and have the frame blasted and then either powdercoated or painted black.

The strip down continues...

The rear break drum... including a pile of earwig body parts from a spiders nest inside!

The gunked up frame... the yellow/white visible on the bottom left is a mud wasp nest!

And finally, the frame after a bit of degreasing, scrubbing and wiping down...

Grrrr... cannot for the life of me work out how to remove the metal fork covers without destroying them... anyone know?

Havent made a huge amount of progress of late. Have a few parts on order from Thailand (seems to be a good source of bits for these little bikes) including new gasket set, kickstart lever and a headlight.
