Ok, I've got some time over Christmas and decided to do it ....

While i may not finish, I'm going for a complete build in 10 days ....

I"m using this as my build Diary... :)

I started with this

RIMG0233small.jpg

Over the last year i got it to this in a few hours a month ...

Yesterday I tore the engine down and started the rebuild...

Also shot a bit of colour onto the frame to see what the colour combo was like ....

Off to grab some seals that weren't in my 'complete' gasket set, then more frame / engine today .......

Watch this space.

Man, good luck with the build. Mine took 2 years. Really like the look of that specific bike, and you've done a good job so far. Keep it up. I'll be watching. What was wrong with the engine?

I may have neglected to mention that the bike had been sitting outside for at least 14 years when i got it :)

Engine had not been started or touched ....

And lets face it, its cheaper and quicker to rebuild now, rather than when something goes bang later :)

Peace of mind mostly

Will post update in a few hours...

Frame Painted.

Engine 3/4 Assembled (Short-Block - no barrels yet)

Need to buy tyres and Grips (OR should i use my 'Flame' grips ?)

Cheers

This afternoon ...

Frame painting completed

Head on and in the Frame tomorrow morning . . . . .

Maybe also get front end started ....

an Extra 1000 points for anyone who can identify the vehicle in the background ....Its the next build...

(Hint - its named after a county in England...)

'55 A50 .....

Not sure if to rebuild, restore, or Restify ....

or just go completely mental and Hot-Rod ....

Time + Money ... Hmmmmmm

Standard engine and setup = zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Plus, you've gotta spend all that time tracking down original bits and pieces, when instead, you could make it all work how you want it.

Imagine that old bird with a twin cam 4 pot ;)

Its a small engine bay ... personally i was thinking a twin-rotor with a hair-dryer, or maybe one of those cute little Rover V8s ..... :p

Of course, I'll cross that bridge when i come to it .....

(And I have a whole pile of original bits for it ... I bought two cars to start with !)

But as I say, next project .. gotta get this one registered first .... ::)

Cheers

Bit of a slow day today .....

On the bright side, i learned a lot of wrong ways to time the cams .....

But its buttoned up, in the frame and ready for the next parts ....

Swing arm / Front end tomorrow then a few days off i think ....

Front End - New Seals, paint and fitted (Hate the Silver now, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it will be gold next week :) )
Wheels - New Bearings, Paint and fitted (Black at front, raw alloy at the back ... also, who says you cant fit a CX Wheel to a CB ??)
Clip Ons
Headlight
Tank
Seat - this will be getting trimmed over the next few days ...

Getting there ?

Ok, had the weekend off, and not much happened today .... I painted my Son's bike (Pushie) and had a go at trimming my seat ... it didnt end well ...

A Mate dropped in a set of awesome grips that didnt fit his Buell and started sorting out the front end .....(Controls and such)

IMAG0103.jpg

Managed to break 2 bolts .... the ones that hold the brake distribution block .... (DOH!)

So, out to get some Ezy-Outs in the morning and find a motor-trimmer !

Then hopefully the exhaust / carbs on, Electrics in and have a go at starting it !

Cheers

No Pics today, TWO broken bolts in the Brake distribution block put a real damper on today's activities ....

BUT the Seat has been dropped into the trimmer and options discussed...

Material for new Carb-Pods has been purchased (Yep, making my own ..... watch this space)

After trying to remove the broken bolts, i ended up drilling and tapping out to M8, up from M6 - BUT i now have the front end stitched up with all new Braided lines (Custom from HELPerformance - Dark lines, Green ends (Of course) with stainless fittings .... nice ...)

Tomorrow should see carbs fitted, exhaust on, starter in, chain on and maybe a few more bits done ...

i'd like to have electrics in by Friday - have a go at starting it !

Cheers

Crap, a couple of days with no update - SORRY !!!

Anyway, on with the update ...

Carbs Rebuilt / on (There is a whole story in that, but the man who invented the rubber-boot mounting system for Four-Cylinders should be rotting in Hell about now ....!!)
Electrics in (Some loom repairs, some still pending)
Seat Trimmed / On (CustomSew - Morrisett - Give Deborah a call AWESOME SERVICE / PRICE / TIME !!! 0414 681 834 )
Original Gauges / key mounted (Don't have time to fab the bracket for my CB750 POLICE Speedo - that can come later!)

On with the pics...

Hope to get electrics working tomorrow .... Stay Tuned...

Cheers

So Nearly Made it !!!

If it wasnt for a dud battery, i reckon i might have sorted the electrics today....
That and a missing swing-arm nut ... had to do a shop run to try to find one ... and all the bolt suppliers around here are closed !
(Managed to find one at BWIP - it is a M16x1.5 Nylock if anyone else is looking for one !)

Anyway, got the last parts of the engine buttoned up (Even remembered the Neutral switch ! - woo!) and a few bits and pieces tidied ...

(The pics are crappy mobile phone pics - my android hates night shots.. sorry)
