KazJim's 10-day build CB750 Fz

G'day All, a quick update today.

About a week after my last post, my wife had a bit of a fall and injured her back - three herniated discs to be exact. Bike went onto the back burner while helping her recuperate.

She spent 4 weeks in hospital and has just started on recuperative physiotherapy ....

Well, today was the first weekend that i had free and she was ok with the kids - so i worked my Bum off ....

Fabricated a bracket to mount the indicators / taillight
Repaired about a million problems with the wiring loom
Fitted and bled the brakes (That rear one is a bitch to get started ...)
Fitted up the muffler (eeeew necessary at the moment - this thing is LOUD - will be replacing at first opportunity - maybe home-made baffle in the pipe instead)
sorted a heap of little issues.

And the result is that I took it for its first ride under its own power for over 15 years !

Some more tidying next weekend, then its time for the plates and registration !! WOO!

Will update again soon.

Despite my wife being in hospital again for back injury, i have managed to get a lot further with my little 'scoot ...

wiring sorted, engine running and everything bolted up nice ..

Carbs need syncing and tuning (4x vacuum gauge system turned up today)
Need to mount speedo + new lights to replace ugly-ass honda cluster

Ummmm, thats about it :)

I have taken it for 2 rides now (Up and down the street...) and it handles real nice, feels a lot more nimble than another CB750 Fz that i rode for a few months, the Koni rears and re-built fronts help that a lot, i'm sure..

So, an update soon, I promise !

(Damn work, keeps getting in the way of bikes .... Bah!)

Cheers
JB

Sorry to hear that your Wife hurt her back. good to hear that she is on the mend! great that you've kept your sprits up and still getting the odd moment to twist a wrench!

Popped the airbox on today ..... Gone are all the 'weird running' issues I've been having this last two weeks ...

Now to sort the 'racing idle' issue . . .

Got the parts and design for my 'dashboard' (idiot lights) - jsut need some time to finish that off now ..

Took it for a ride up and down the street again today . . its like a new beast ... Still some minor sorting still to go, but definitely getting there :)

Just to clarify, the 'Racing Idle' issue is a strange one ....

The bike will start, idle nicely, then a quick flick of the throttle will see it sitting around 3k and staying there !

Shut the engine down and restart (Without touching throttle / choke) and it settles to a nice 1k idle ....

I cant see anything 'mechanical' doing it, and the advance is pretty much sorted ...

No vacuum leaks i can find with my can of brake cleaner ...

My only idea is the weird air-bypass valves these carbs have ... i think one of them might be leaking ...

Dammit, carbs off again to check them all out !

Also, they seem to want to dump fuel after shutdown, but i think that's just dirty fuel holding the float valves open a little ...hell, it has been sitting a LONG time and i cant clean EVERYTHING :)

Anyway, should be quiet next weekend, so have another go then :)

Cheers all
