KDX 200 Project thing

I'll just take it to a guy in town who I was going to pay to chop the springs anyways and have him get the rod out, it'll cost me another 15 bucks probably but at this point I've been banging my head against the wall for a couple hours now. Lol.

whats the inside look like?

I shaved a piece of rod like this to hold the damper tube inside. Tap it into the hole in the damper rod a bit, lock it in a vise and then an air wrench on the lower fork bolt to remove. This will keep the damper rod from spinning. Broom stick works too but the metal has a better bite.

Here's the best pictures of the inside I can pull off...
I would prefer getting this rod out myself as opposed to someone doing it.
I tried using a pvc pipe and cutting the notches in it, but no evail..

damn that sucks, mine has an allen head. I did the same method with the vise as above and mine came right off with a standard ratchet no problems I hope you have a vise and air

The KDX is a 1986 KDX200, and the front end is a 1990 KX250 front end..
I tried looking at a service manual and seeing if it showed anything there, but it was pretty much worthless.

My dilemma is that I already put new seals in these, and transfered a tire, but if I can't figure it out myself I have to pay an arm and a leg at a shop to do something that is super simple.

AND the weather is getting real nice so I'm itching to ride as well..

That's exactly the tool I need too... Damn.
I definitely don't work on these enough to be able to justify spending the 50 bucks on it though.
I'll have to think on it.

Looks like a piece of pipe from Home Depot and some grooves cut out of the bottom. I don't see why you couldn't make that for less than $10. That being said, the Amazon price is still probably a lot less than what a shop would charge you to do it.

Yeah, it's almost exactly like what I made earlier out of pvc pipe. I'll run to lowes later today or tomorrow and snag some piping, try and grind out grooves like that and then drill out holes up top to run a small pipe through the top.

Yep, make one.

I was able to make a tool that worked and you can't imagine how happy I was!

Now I have it out, where does the spacer actually go?
Do I need to dig deeper?

Okay, their fully broken down..
Now does the spacer just go where I'm pointing?
Or do I need to put it somewhere between this bottom assembly?

No instruction with the parts? IDK anything about spacers, I do seals and oil, if the suspension needs valve work I ship it out to the pros

I'm making my own spacer, I didn't buy any sort of kit.
The info on this is relatively limited, so I'm sort of learning on my own.
I have a friend who builds custom bikes that uses a lot of dirt bike front ends and he's giving me some guidance.
