Been Around the Block
Hello ladies & gents, been lurking on here for awhile & figured I'd do the right thing & join up. I'm Ray, I drive a truck to pay the bills & live in Kansas.

Me & motorcycles... I started out on a black '79 KZ400LTD when I was 14, (She tried to kill me 100 times if once!) I sold it to my adoptive mother when I got a silver '77 KZ650C1 when I was 19 & rode that girl everywhere for a few years. I bought a black '03 Katana 750 when I was 21, then a few weeks later sold it to put a down payment on a '06 ZX636. A few weeks later my 650C1 was stolen (I hope ya killed the bastard girl! Rest in peace.) The week after I lowsided the 636 around 140 on my 22nd birthday but somehow lived through it. It's a fighter now! Last august I spotted a KZ650B1 fender sticking out of a bush & after finding out the owner was going to scrap it, made him an offer & rode her home.

It was bone stock when I got her & neglected severely, sitting outside under a cedar tree... I'm still picking sap pf her for a year now! I started off wanting to go superbike / eddie lawson style with her but I'm leaning more towards cafe now. She'll probably end up about half way between the two, but either way, she gonna haul!

Here's what I've done so far, winter I made a custom tach mount & got rid of everything else related to the dash. I went through the harness, eliminating everything except ignition, charging system, headlight, tail light & brake light. I soldered & repaired it the best I could & replaced the fuse box with inline units under the tank & finally added a waterproof 12V outlet under my right side cover. I made my own rearsets out of yamaha dirtbike & H1 parts I had laying around. I scored a seat & cover off ebay & did up my first seat even though it's basically stock it turned out really nice & better than the ratty king / queen that was on her! I've done up the carbs with 112.5's & 17.5's (Still tuning the d@mn things!) when I got a V&H pipe, pods & a dyna kit. I got rid of the huge rear fender & tucked a small tail light along with the tag under the duck bill. I just put on new sprockets (front one tooth larger 'cause I could pull 2K into redline in top gear!) & a #50 chain from a pulling unit draw works I had laying around, fits 530 sprockets perfectly! There's a hundred other little things I've done, I'm gathering up more parts for the winter while she's down again. I've got a GPZ750 pan & Zypher cooler, a ZX600 siwinger & I'm trying to find factory 17 inch hoops to lace to my hubs. Clip ons, dual front brakes, custom seat keeping passenger accomidations, 11.5 inch XS650 shocks with progressive springs, 750 motor of somesort, etc.

Well I guess that's enough babbling for me, here's some eye candy!

Nice to see another Kansan on here! Im in Wichita, and just starting my first build, a 71 CL350. Going "cafe" style on this one.

Welcome to the site I live in So Cal I have a 78 KZ1000A2, 82 KZ1100 Spectre, and mite be getting a 94 ZX11 I will find out tomorrow on that one.
Take care and ride safe (or I like to say get them before they get you)

Welcome! I'm an ex-Kansan and would love to return some day. I used to do a lot of mountain biking along the KS River in Lawrence and in the Flint and Smoky Hills. Would LOVE to return with a more powerful machine and do some serious miles in the middle part of the state.

Maybe some day I'll see you out there.

Welcome Ray.
You'll love the info and eye candy on this site.

Nice choice in bikes you've got there. ;)

Nice KZ! I had my heart set on finding one, but I ended up with a little Yamaha for now - figure I should get my feet wet with something a little slower/smaller before I dive right into a faster bike! Have you checked out kz650.info yet? I spent a good deal of time lurking there and admiring all the bikes on there.
