Hey guys,
Long story short a buddy of mine kickstarted my bike forward on accident and stripped the lower casing and pitted the top case, I pulled the engine replaced with a new bottom case and rebuild it to the books, I'm having trouble figuring out how the kick starter spring goes on, I thought I had it right but after the rebuild I went to kick it and a nice spring/clunk noise happened. I'm either putting the spring on wrong or something inside is messed up and I'll need to pull the engine again, any help would be great...

If the lever returns to its original position then the return spring is right. Your issue it seems is that the shaft wasn't placed in the right location when the bottom end was bolted up. It's always a good idea to sit the lower case on without sealant, and check to make sure that works before sealing and bolting up.

Sounds like the issue is that the shaft is pushed too far inward toward the middle of the case, so that the gear, when it rides on the helix as it's rotated does not fully engage the transmission. Like its slipping off or barely engaging.

Unfortunately the only thing outside the cases as far as the kickstart shaft goes, is the return spring. You have to split to get at the other stuff.

Thanks 1sttimer I pulled the engine and adjusted it, I also think I adjusted the clutch wrong so I'm rebuilding Monday and hopefully get this thing on the road.
