Kickstarter not turning over motor

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums so bare with me.

I have a 1976 Honda cj360t. It doesn't have an electric start so kickstarting it is my only option. The bike ran before I took it apart and the Kickstarter worked perfectly. I'm in the process of putting the bike back together and I went to kick just for s***s and giggles and it felt as if the bike had no compression which I know it does. When I put it in gear and try to move the bike it is more difficult to move the bike so I know it's turning over but why would the Kickstarter suddenly not turn the bike over? Thanks

Check your clutch, it's probably too tight and not gripping. Easy to do. Back off the nut and loosen the flat head adjuster on the clutch mechanism where the cable goes in and see if it works. Then you can adjust it properly.
