Not only will you save your son the shame of going down the left hand path of hipsterdom, you'll liberate this bike from a guy who doesn't know how to tune his own carbs ;D

If so... then you are OBLIGATED by the DTT Charter, Section3b paragraph 4, to:
- kick is ass at all and every opportunity
- to completely disassociate with him.
- knock over his scooter as many time as it takes to prevent it from properly operating or to light it on fire. (which ever will less mess up the pompodur)

Just found this shirt and thought ya'lled appreciate it:

The Do's & Don't's are pure gold. Some other good stuff in there too...but ya...I follow you.

Vice is alternately completely vaccuous and lame (read: record reviews) and sometimes brilliant (read: their vice TV series where they went to North Korea). The Do's and Don'ts are pretty hilarious sometimes, but I suspect some folks read them thinking "ooh, okay, so purple leggings, gold flats and a grandma sweater with hornrims and tousled hair, that's gonna get me phamous!"

Modern mods ride old moped's and 125's with clip-ons? I dunno. I think modern mods still wear fred perry's and hang out in little italy.

Side note...we've all seen the guys with popped collar polo shirts. The other day I saw someone take it to the next level. Two polo's, layered, both collars popped. I shit you not.

Double Izod with the collar popped? Check. Izod over a pastel tshirt under a linen jacket? Yeah, I rocked it. Parachute pants and wrestling shoes? Red and grey pants, black asics Tigers. WORD.

Now, let's be clear here. I wore those outfits when I was a kid, in THE EIGHTIES, when they were popular the FIRST TIME. They have NEVER been popular again, trust me on this. THere are a few heaumeauxs out there still tryin' to drop their sweet style on the rest of us, and it ain't workin'. What will work, is this shirt design that you should wear, or at least have in card form in your wallet to hand out when you see these douchebags.

BTW, life before AIDS was AWESOME. When you look like me, and can say, "Get your shit, let's go" and get laid, it's a beautiful time to be alive.

Those were the days. We miss you, Ponch.

This thread bring back memories of Daytona Bike Week 2002. My wife and I are staying in St. Augustine and riding my T150V Trident down to Daytona every morning. Of course I'm in full Rocker kit, studded leather, boots, Davida helmet and goggles, rolled up jeans, the works. Pulling out of town on US 1 we stop at the final light before hitting the open road and what should pull up next to us?

One beautifully restored Lambretta with at least eight mirrors on it. The rider is in a target t-shirt, anorak, desert boots, perfectly coiffed mod hairstyle (flaunting the helmet law). I look over, he looks at me, and what's the first thing that comes out of my mouth? "Shouldn't I be beating the shit out of you right now?"

We both started laughing so hard was missed the light (fortunately no traffic) and almost dropped our bikes.

Addendum to the Mod history: The term "Mod" actually goes back about 7-8 years earlier to the period that we normally think of. British Jazz in the 50's was split between the Traditional and Modern (think Dave Brubek, etc.) Jazz, which invariably had the camps entitled "Trads" and "Mods". The Mod style of the '60's had it's start here, although the Mods of the '50's had probably married and started famlies, so they weren't around for the '60's incarnation. The line between the two is direct, however, with more than a few individuals hanging around.

If you want a decent look at this period of the Mod life, rent the movie "Absolute Beginners". It's as good a treatment of the '50's Mod as "Quadrophrenia" is of the '60's.

so "mod" or "rocker"

and yes I know this is a moped, a moped that will break 60mph on flat ground.
I call it my personal half-ton up club, and no it's not a scooter.

It's about the rider. Personally, I'm kind of a cross between the two.

i used to ride with some scooter boys back in the early 80's who could do the ton on stripped down smallframe scoots with big 250 2 strokes and 13 in. wheels, never could keep up with em though, not with 12 headlights, all functioning, and 12 mirrors adding to the wind resistance. i was lucky to hit 70mph.
some of the scoots now-a-days run nitros and i bet they'd keep pace with the under 500cc crowd.
that being said, i haven't ridden a vespa since 1986 but 2 wheels is 2 wheels.

Great topic, I got to see Quadrophenia last nite. Fantastic movie.
Are there any other more Rocker based movies?

I noticed that almost no rockers in Quadrophenia had clip ons or clubman's.. saw one pair of drag bars and a lot of pull back bars. I'd really like to see some Ace Ruffians racing in the streets on old brit bikes. anything like that out there? There is that new Cafe Documentary out id like to see.. im ganna keep searching.

There have definitely been vintage scooters which have hit the ton... though they are typically (or all) Lambrettas. Never heard of a 100mph Vespa, though lots of scooterboys have tried. If its happened, its happened in germany for sure. Those guys build some made bikes.

There have been some serious scooters built in Toronto....

and yes... that's nitro

Not moto movie, but i did just recently watch a classic - car movie.. 2 lane blacktop.. starring James Taylor and Dennis Wilson (Drummer of The Beach Boys), as well as Oates.. forget his first name..

Really killer movie, easily earned a good spot in my rewatch forever catagory..

I loved that movie. Watched it one night at 2am after a bunch of tequila. Classic!
