KZ 400 Carb Questions. Need Jet sizes!

Hey Guys, Im a new member Here, So I would first like to say Hi. I recently Picked up a 1979 KZ400. Planning a "frame on" budget cafe build. Yes, I did a search and couldnt really find the specific info i needed, so here i am.

The Bike has the stock carbs to my knowledge.
The PO had pods (with the stock rubber boot between carbs and new filters), stock 2-1 exhaust system (from another bike).

He told me he upped the primary Jet one size, and gave me a few other jets with the bike. He said he had planned to up the secondary as well, but hadnt yet.

I have a few questions. First, What size jets are in a stock carb? Second, Will the jets be marked or stamped with the sizes? ( he gave me a box full of goodies, and have yet to examine all the parts closely.) If I plan to stick with the pods, and run a shorty muffler off the existing 2-1 exhaust what size would the jets have to be? I havent made any modifications to the motor or exhaust yet, and it runs great, so i havent had a reason to pull plugs and see if its running lean or rich.

I know most guys will complain and say adding a less restrictive exhaust will decrease performance, but hey... if it looks cool, and sounds cool, IT IS COOL.

I will admit i know almost nothing about carbs, so any help would be great. Thanks!

best advice I could give is sign up here, they have a few threads on jetting for stock carbs. I can't help past that as my factory carbs were junk so I scrapped them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. You brought a good thought. Instead of putting a bunch of time and effort screwing around with the current carbs, are there better options for replacement? The PO had mentioned he was gonna go with slide carbs... In the first post I admitted my experience with carbs is limited. Possibly less sensitive to issues like switching exhausts and air cleaners? if so which type, and where do i get them? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Also, it looks like there is three jets on the carbs. Main jet, secondary, and pilot. Will all of them need to be bumped up or just some? Im clueless, so guide me oh wise ones. Thanks

Stock sizes are Primary 70 secondary 95

I rejeted mine to this and it's running golden brown plugs:
Primary 70 to 80
Secondary 95 to 105
left pilot alone and screw is out 1 1/4 turns on my bike

Running CV 32's (diaphram carbs) with pods.

Exhaust is 2 into 2 with headers cut off at old muffler length and shorty Megaphones on each end.
