Looks great Man! I'm glad you got it back together. I know how much of a pain that stuff can be. When I put my 400 back together I had all the cam stuff and engine assembly right, but I put the timing advance plate on 180 degrees off, so It would not start. It took me forever to figure out what was wrong. Doesn't it feel good once you figure out what the problem is? Your engine paint will be much more durable and resistant to chemicals once it gets hot a few times. I tried to bake as much of it as I could before I installed the engine. Prep/Mask/Paint on an engine is a huge pain in the butt. It takes FOREVER! Keep up the good work.

Not gonna lie it's a good feeling to start seeing things come together. I just hope this thing runs once i assemble everything.

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi

Got couple things done last night. Most importantly the engine is back on the bike!

Headlight is installed with this italian made handgrips. The grips are air filled and they feel pretty good.

Rear taillight and blinkers are installed and ready to be wired.

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Build

oh my gosh dude...thanks for the props on my build, but yours is looking fantastic!! you've definitely convinced me to get a nice stainless bolt set for my engine, haha. and yeah, front end swap and monoshock on mine. i like it, but i'm much more into the more classic look of original forks and dual shocks now. still happy with mine, but really digging yours a bunch too! where are you at in philly?

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Build

No, I live near williamsport pa, but that's not too far. There really isn't anyone on DTT in my immediate area...

MF, if your still thinking about doing a ride sometime, i would be very interested and it be great to meet you in person.

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Build

Yes that would be awesome. I really wanted to do a fall ride this year but it didn't get enough interest. We will have to do a ride next year when it's warmer. What do you think?

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Master Cyclinder Help

Today i replaced my master cylinder with a smaller one from a 2009 Ninja 250, then bled the breaks for a very long time to get rid of all the bubbles, but its not working. It doesn't seem to produce enough pressure for the stock break calipers. Anyone would know a solution to this? Thanks

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Master Cyclinder Help

I can't say 100% but I really think the MC from a 250ninja should work just fine. I bet you still have air in the system some where. It the lever firm? Sometimes it takes FOREVER to get all the air out. If you have a vacuum bleeder they work the best. Don't give up on the Ninja MC just yet. That is just my two cents.

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Build

If the Ninja was a dual disc set-up and your Kz400 is a single disc set-up, then that MC's may not work for you. Wrong piston size. I had a tricky time picking up a radial Brembo for mine due to the single disc config.

It was quite a while ago and I didn't get too deep into the research, but I remember finding some info and charts online showing the required piston sizes for different set-ups.

Re: KZ 400 Kawakazi Build

I assume you are using your stock brake calipers? Hopefully you have rebuilt or at least taken everything apart and refurbished everything. If you have it is most likely air in the lines as previously stated. If not, you could be compressing mud :(. Let it sit try again, air will work its way up. You may also try turning the front end to the left or right to position the bleeder as far north as possible. As long as that MC is functioning properly it should handle the task. I had a little trouble with mine, but it just took longer than expected and now works quite well. Good luck. :)

Just did both front and rear brakes on my kz750, as I added new lines. Both calipers and master cylinders had to be reworked as both of them were full of brown shiet. I'd make sure you go through the both caliper and master cylinder to start. I had a hard time getting the new fluid from the master cylinder to caliper. Ended up going to harbor freight and getting one of these:

Really easy with this thing. Worth the $23 bucks.

Nice work on your kz400. Looks tits.
