KZ-first chop-fender time-tips??

Been Around the Block
Making some progress on the KZ. I haven't cut one thing from the bike so far, being a newbie I don't want to make anything permanent until I spend some time riding it and find out what I like.
BUT, I need to cut up the front fender. I'm going to use most of it for the rear tire and a 10-12" section for the front. I've checked out the other topics and found one and it sounds like a cutting wheel or dremel will work, and clean it up with a sander. The main thing I'm worried about though is the ends after the cut, I'm assuming there will be bare metal exposed now, how bad does it look if it's not chromed like the rest of fender, I'm thinking I'll keep it wd40'ed until this winter, then I'm thinking I'll paint them black, or should I rattle can them black now to keep it from rusting? Any tips, I did pick up to make sure and tape it off where the cut is going to be. If I paint it now, I'm assuming I should rough up the chrome, and tips on type of paint?

Chop the rear of the fender and reposition it? That way, you'll have a nice rolled lip on the leading edge... I have no idea on the paint. I have been playing around with the Dupli-Color Shadow - a black out chrome kit made for automotive wheels. I practiced on a couple of chrome fenders I had laying around and liked the outcome. I also painted a chromed plastic headlight assembly and it's been curing for a couple of weeks. I plan to use it on a build. For now, I think I'll leave my KZ's fender off and just have a fork brace.

Thanks biker reject. I really like the idea of using duplicolor for the summer, or longer if I like it. Maybe other spots too, didn't know it existed.

It's a new product, only $17 at Pep Boys. It's cool because you decide how much of the chrome to shine through the paint and there is no scuffing of the original surface.

It worked out pretty good. Cut off saw, and a belt sander, and it shaped up really well. I found out the bike is named already too, Angel II. The previous owner scribed a beauty on it, so much for naming the bike, it's already done. It's really light, the flash from the camera made it appear brighter. No paint needed for now too.

My dog had a collar with a name on it when I adopter her. It should be just as easy to replace that cap on your motor as it was to replace the tag with a new name.
