If it don't fit, you're not trying hard enough!
Damn is this ever tempting!!!!!!! Decent price and even looks in decent shape. He says it's rough, but I've seen worse...... SHIT!!! I wish I had $750 just laying around! How much do kidneys go for on the black market? Anybody need some XS parts? Have 650 and 400 stuff. Also spare 400 engine. Maybe an MX250 that'll be pretty much complete once I get my shipment of parts. Some CB450 parts? Got lotsa stuff. Come on, help fund my KZ project! Lol! No, seriously.

I have a friend who has a KZ1300 that he may be willing to sell. He is in the process of taking the head off to have a valve job done - one valve is sticking we think, resulting in poor compression in one cylinder. The other 5 are all at 150psi. His is probably much nicer than the one in London, and was running not so long ago. Just not as well as it should be considering the one bad cylinder.

If you're seriously considering a 1300 let me know.

Hey Rudy, im looking for some handle bar bushings and hardware for this 400 i have. you have any of those? Maybe some bars as well? Trying to get this thing cleaned up to sell it this spring. I too am buying a big road goer :) Found a near minty GS1100G im purchasing!

Tim, I am really considering a large Kawasaki. Just like the looks and their engines are supposed to be damn good. How much does your buddy want for it? The one in London is $750 with about 33,000km and would definitely need to be torn down and cleaned and rebuilt.

Hey Rudy,

Is that MX250 as in Can Am MX250? If so where are you getting parts from?

MIke

Mike, no, not a Can Am. It's a Yamaha. I'm getting the parts from a guy in California. Stuff should be here late this week or next week sometime. Don't know for sure yet if I plan on selling it off or not. Really all depends.

TonUp, I have the bushings and mounts and everything as I have the stuff for two of these bikes. Lemme know what they're worth to ya. No dice on the bars. The ones I have I wouldn't feel right selling anyway as they've been bent and heated and bent back. I do have a nice bar from a CB450 though.

I was talking to my boss tonight and may be coming into some extra money soon. Who knows. I've made the company about 70 - 80 grand in the last week or so. Keeps the bossman happy when you do that. So I mentioned I was looking around for a big bike (helps that he's a biker too), but didn't have the cash to spare right now. We'll see how things pan out. In any case I'd still like to empty out the garage as the stack of crap... I mean, parts, is getting pretty high. I'll make up a list of things I've got sometime. Can take pictures if anyone wants.

I'm pushing my friend for a price on his bike. He's on the fence about selling it. It's in very good condition, and he's in the process of removing the head for a valve job as I mentioned. The poor compression in one cylinder could be as simple as stuck rings or a bad valve.

I'll try to get pics too.

Sounds good Tim. I've been throwing ideas around in my head a little. If I were to go for a KZ1300, it would likely stay quite stock. Except of course for the rectangular headlight on the later models. What designer ever thought that looked good? Maybe I'll have to sell the XS400 when it's done just to buy a KZ. I'm really wanting one now. Lol!

Here's a couple of pics of the bike. It was running last summer, but when we checked compression as mentioned, we found very low compression on one cylinder. The other 5 are a nice consistent 150psi which is well within stock range I think for the bike. My friend began this year to remove the head for a valve job but hasn't even gotten that far. He removed the radiator as you need to do that to get at the head, and the coils. There is some residue from the decorations the previous owner stuck to the sides of the tank and the seat cowl - you can see it in the pics. Would probably just clean off with some sort of cleaner.

It's bone-stock I think, and has a second seat - the original stock unit in excellent condition if I recall. I think he'd be happy with $1,000 for the bike which compared to $750 for a bike that hasn't run in 13 years and has no history seems pretty reasonable. Well below the old $1 / cc rule which used to apply to Japanese bikes way back in the day. I got close to $6 / cc for my 550!

He also has a brand new set of Accell coils for the bike. This kit which he bought off eBay for $250

And a brand new set of Metzeller Lasertec (I think that's the model) tires which haven't been installed.

He'd take $1,300 for the lot. The coils are apparanlty one of the more common upgrades people do to these bikes.

Mike if you are seriously interested we can talk, I'd let the lot go for $1000. With the tires, coils, new airbox and tool tray it means you're getting the bike for about 500 beans. Although I love classic machines and don't mind getting dirty working on them, with 2 kids under 3 and a recently purchased cottage property I'm kidding myself that I will ever have time to sink into the bike. It should go to someone willing to spend the time getting it on the road, while I take the gutless route of buying a new bike that requires little to no attention.

If you are interested let me know, I can send more pics if needed.

Just to confirm, Chundy is indeed my friend who is selling the KZ1300 - although I'm not sure who Mike is? :)

Mike is actually Tummyson. He was asking me about my MX250.

As for the KZ1300, I would absolutely LOVE to take it off your hands. But, I don't have a whole lot of cash floating around just at this time, which is kinda frustrating for building bikes. I'll have to see what happens in the near future. Gotta talk to the bosses again. I'll let you know when things change.

Rudy

I may have my dad interested in this bike. I'll let you know.
