Hi guys, I'm about to roll my machine into the river!!! Can carb fuel level cause my bike to run rich? Have black deposits in my plugs, I am running pod filters and stubby silencer, should I opt for smaller jets????

Please help before I get to work with a sledge hammer on this thing

No.
Maybe,maybe not.
Are they the original stock carbs?
Are they set to stock specs?
Do you have a service manual?
If not go to kz400.com ,start searching and reading.
Anytime you change one part of the equation you will have to change something else.
With pod filters on cv carbs, the filter can obstruct the air bleed holes on the carbs and cause all kinds of problems.
Slide carbs will be easier to tune than cv carbs.

Yeah we need a lot more information in order to help you. My kz400 has pods and exhaust and would run rich as heck with no top end power until I went to a smaller than stock main jet. As confusing as it sounds, it helped right when I was considering tossing my own bike into a river.

Thanks for reply's,

Yeah stock carbs with 70's as main jets, nothing obstructed as far as I can see! Been on kz400 com and some reason can't register on forum?? Have read that cb350 carbs would fit but feel that would mean even more messing around to get the right set up! This carb thing is a bit of a mystery to me. Some days the bike will start and some days it won't but when it does its rich! I have good sparks in all the right places and timing is correct although only statically!

Cheers
