Okay... I am baffled. I was using the CV style carbs, so this flat slide is new to me. My petcock is not vacuum operation, and either is the carb.
When I turn the petcock ON, the fuel line fills, and the bike runs fine. However once the carb uses up whatever is in the float bowls, and whatever is in the fuel line, fuel STOPS flowing from the petcock. So the bike essentially run out of gas. If I stop, turn the petcock off, and then back on, it starts flowing again and does the same thing over again.
WHY does the fuel stop flowing? Is this a back pressure thing? How do I fix it!?
Any input appreciated. Here is a video to better explain what happens in case I failed.
Was the problem there before the new carbs? If you disconnect the fuel line from the carb, will gas flow out of the tank with the petcock open? I'm thinking what Rex is, your gas cap is not allowing air into the tank, thus causing a vacuum inside the tank.
It does flow when not connected to carb... However I haven't let it flow for a long time to see if the same thing would happen. Guess that's my next step.
Can I clear the vent in my gas cap? Or do I have to buy a new one? Not sure where said vent is. There doesn't appear to be a hole in my gas cap..
Well, it's winter... So I m doing some work on this guy. Still not 100% sure I have the carb issue solved, but I will have to wait until spring to find out for sure.
In the mean time... I am finally taking the plunge and painting my tank and building a new 2-up brat style seat. Paint is done. Next up, graphics and seat. Tabs are cut off, so I just need to touch up the frame and make the seat.
First attempt at body work ever. What a pain. I should have just painted over the old stuff.
