KZ400 with loads of class... (FINAL STAGES!!!)

The problem with not running a fender up front is that the forks are fairly spindly for the weight of that bike, just like old Hondas, the brace is built in. Personally, I think you should whip up a nice ped slicer for it and that should take the visual weight off the shape...though I don't find it bad at all myself....

Neat scoot!

The brace is in fact a seperate part that is already black, but I do like the white fender and feel it ties the bike together. Initially I wanted a more rounded look, but had a tough time just getting it to where we did and I'm ultimately pretty happy with the out come.

Haha...I know what it is! The pics of the photoshopped bits has a full silver fender but above in the thread shows your stubbed white fender...nice!

Nope the photoshopped pics show one of each type of fender ;D the one with the old fender wwas the only decent profile I had.

I'VE OFFICIALLY FOUND THE FREAKING PROBLEM!!!!!!!!

In the comfort of my dad's garage I had a bit of time to tear in this evening. After painfully removing a couple of stripped bolts and using an impact driver on the rest I waqs able to get inside the case...what a freaking mess.

The chain guide and sprocket were built up with grime and then there was the stator cover...after removing it I found roughly a full tablespoon worth of bloody rust powder just chilling...

Last I checked electrical compnents don't function to well in those conditions so there it is...

With a new stator ready to go in, I'm letting it soak with WD-40 for the night so I don't strip or break any of the hardware and the new stator will be in in the next few days...

...I can honestly say I'm going to sleep better tonight.

Well the stator I had was wrong, but I just won one on Ebay for $18.00 so next weak she should be roaring to life :D

Well I got the right stator now and it still won't charge. I finally broke down and hauled it down to CycleMetrics over in Portland, I'll keep you guys posted as to what they find...

Yes, please do, I'd be interested to know exactly what it was. Hope they find the issue.

Well as I suspected the stator had failed. Cycle Metrics rocks if anyone in the Portland area needs help. While it was there he also, totally rest adjusted the carbs, lubed all of the cables, adjusted the front brake after replacement, adjusted the clutch (which included straightening the bent clutch lever), replaced the turn signal flasher with on that works with my smaller lights, and redid several sections of wiring that needed attention, all this for the price he'd quoted for the stator/charging system repair!

With cold wet roads I on;y got out for a brief ride, but it was heaven. This bike has never ridden this well in any aspect. The new bars were perfect, the power was great, the bloody turn signals worked...I wasn't worried about it dying...it was a good f@#king day my friends...a good day indeed...

All that is left is some fresh paint on the new stator cover, a new battery, and a full tank of fresh gas and she'll be road worthy at the first sign of sun...

Matt (SausageMahoney) will have some pics up in a bit of the ride etc...

here's some photos, looking awesome man. can't wait to zip around town next to that bike!

Kick ass job man. It must feel good!!! The tags and light might look better on the fender. Just my 2.5 cents (inflation) Oh yeah, ditch the new shoes and put the Taylors back on! just kidding. nice ride though. Troy

Oh believe me a new set of Chuck's will be in order come riding season :)

The tag/tail light situation is definitely temporary...not sure what the solution will be though...
