KZ750 Internal Fork Lowering Question?

Been Around the Block
So I've seen the threads on how to lower forks internally by adding a spacer to the damper portion of the fork and then cutting that amount from the spring, seems simple enough. My particular fork setup has a metal spacer between the spring and the fork cap (see 92026A in the diagram). Say I wanted to lower the forks an inch, could I cut an inch from the spacer and put that inch of pipe on the damper rod and be done with it? Makes sense in my head...

if you are going to shorten the fork travel then you really need to increase the spring rate to prevent bottoming
shortening the spacer wont increase spring rate
shortening the spring is the best way to do that unless you get new stiffer rate springs
cut the spring with a cutoff wheel, heat the last coil, reform as it looked originally ,grind flat
they don't have to be EXACTLY the same +- 1/8" is fine
personally i would shorten the spring 50% more than the reduced length, use similar to stock preload and give it a rest ride

I probably should add I have progressive fork springs which I will be installing with the rebuild. They are about 1/4" shorter than the stock ones.

if they are just stock replacement springs likely they will still be too soft with shortened fork travel
why are you trying to ruin you're suspension, anyway?

I want the front about an inch lower and I don't want clip ons. An inch shouldn't effect much.

No you cant use that spacer on the dampening rode...wont fit. You need to buy or make that part custom.

it should be fine but be prepared to stiffen the springs nothing worse than a mushy bottoming fork
heavier forkoil woul be a good idea
also a higher fork oil level can help tune out some issues as well
testing will tell find the worst road around do some laps
