KZ750n Spectre Starter...Help Please!!!

I am relatively new to motorcycles in general and I recently purchased a 1983 KZ750n Spectre from a friend as my first project bike. Currently, I have to pop start the engine (roll start?) and it seems to run great, other than the fact that I cannot start it with its electronic system. Does anyone have suggestions as to whether...

A.) Buy a new starter

or....

B.) Buy a starter rebuild kit?

I just want to know what the advantages/disadvantages are of each, and the relative experience it would take to do either.

As I said, I am new to this and have no experience with starters. I appreciate all of the help!

Welcome man. First off, let me say that I am an avid KZ-aholic. With that said, we need some more info.

WHY does the starter not work in the first place.
1. It's not hooked up at all
2. A switch is not functioning correctly (starter button, starter solenoid)
3. Fuse is blown
4. Starter itself is kaputt.
5. Starter clutch has worn out causing a grinding noise when starter button is pressed. (not actually a STARTER problem as it's doing it's job, but a part inside the engine has worn out)

Any of these ring a bell? haha. Those are the main issues with starters, other than having a dead/weak battery.
