Land Speed Racing - Do The 3/4 Ton

We started racing with a 1965 Sears 124cc motorcycle. This is one of the three parts bikes we used - others were in better shape!

This is the bike as a "Production Pushrod" class racing bike. It has records at SCTA Bonneville Speedweek on the saltflat, ECTA retired record at Maxton, and ECTA record at the Ohio Mile - 70.79 MPH.

Our rider, my granddaughter

The tires are just about past their legal racing time so we decided to convert the bike to run in the modified class and try for ~ 75 MPH, hence the goal of "Do The 3/4 Ton". Have always liked the 'low buck' hot rodders of the 50's who really did a lot of 'make do' rather than just go out and buy. Kept that theme in mind on this conversion and ended up with wood seat, wood box for gauges, home made bell shaped velocity stack, etc. This is how it ended up and will go to the ECTA Ohio Mile race the last weekend in Sept 2013. Then we can get back to the Honda CB175 to get it ready for next year's racing.

Love the bike and good luck with that 3/4 Ton. As a Grampa of two girls myself I can appreciate the feeling that you have put into this project.

That looks like a lot of fun ;D

Good luck to you and your granddaughter.

I'm a big fan of small engined racing, although my 305 now seems like a big bore
bike ;)

Well, we didn't make the 3/4 Ton! Went 71.86 mph, got an open record for modified 125cc four stroke - ~1 MPH faster in modified than stock but expected more. Spent a day and a half trying to get rid of an erratic return to idle and ended up finding frayed cable wires at the throttle after changing carbs and parts for naught! Solid rear suspension worked fine. Had a great time and met some awesome racers and am looking forward to next year.

Nice job! I want to get a DTT contingent together to ride to one of the Ohio events next year. Post up when you are going- DTT support may be there!

One of my buds was at the meet with his MT01 Yam and saw your Sears - he completely dug your 'chine and had a blast at the meet as well.
