Surfly: Geets is a major league pot-stirrer, a reputation he's quite proud of. Before he got deposed as moderator at CR.net he was largely unbearable regarding DTT and has only slightly lightened up since. That's ok, but as a gleeful pot-stirrer with his sites set directly on this joint one can imagine the detriment that was his goal. And that's the facts as supported by evidence, evidence that can be seen EVERY TIME he types something about this place. Great he doesn't like DTT, whatever. If his intent is to foment trouble then he shoudn't be allowed to post here. Simple as that. That he's created other logins to do so further supports the decision on not to let him participate. No rocket science needed. Kerry has said on multiple occasions that his 'persona' online is a put on that he enjoys and that he's totally different in person. Quite likely.....
As to my other comment regarding Geeto/HeftySlut throwing down against Bill regarding "Cafe" bikes/racing and the propriety thereof: Fuckin' A right I'll point out the hilarity of that crap! Let's see.....
Geeto/HeftySlut/Kerry: 30 something semi-knowledgable, obviously has attempted to absorb a shit-ton of experience. Largely worth listening to for the most part if you're fucking with an old CB750 or H2(?), but also for the comedic value. Seems to feel like he's got the right to fuck with everyone, I dunno.....because it makes his dingle tingle maybe. Maybe it's about being from new york. Never to my knowledge been in an actual race other than the stands and maybe the paddock?
Hoofhearted/Bill: Was there in England the UK in the 60's, experienced it WHEN IT HAPPENED. Has raced, owns an honest cafe, holds several landspeed records etc etc etc.
Has seen and done more in/for 'the sport' (a .net Geeto-ism) than any of us are likely to. Bill's likely forgotten more about this stuff that I will ever know, that's for certain. Add to that, Bill will be polite way longer than anyone else I've seen posting except possibly Go!, but that's because she's too giggly to be mean spirited.
For the record: I like Geets these days, when I get out to his neck of the woods this summer I'll look him up and buy him a beer or two. He may need the break by that point.... We butted heads (ok bashed) for a while there but we've come to a more neutral place. Had I known for certain that Hefty WAS Geeto I'd have made the exact same comment. And I think he dresses funny. Everyone cool knows that when rocking someone elses dualsport thru NYC streets you wear a blue polo (collar popped of course) with the deck shoes and dockers....not pink. I mean C'mon...common sense, no?
To those whining about "drama" on a bike forum, you've missed the boat. This isn't simply a bike forum and I don't think it ever was but it has most definitely grown into far more than it's lesser counterpart. That growth alone points to something intrinsicly right about what's happening here. As has been noted and largely ignored by those not involved directly, we've created real bonds of friendship here. That alone makes a little 'drama' likely. Once you get past the handshake and nod acquaintanceship and more to on to a slug in the arm, have a beer and come eat with the family FRIENDSHIP, the rest of people's lives will invariably come into play. If you don't have interest in knowing other people I hear mass transit accountancy and potato racing are great hobbies for the solitary. If you want nothing but the antiseptic dissemination of stats and diagrams, perhaps another resource would suit you more? Give it a try. Me? I like knowing my friends.
As to the 'drama' itself, yeah it can get out of hand in a forum environment as has been shown fact time and time again. Yay internet. However, just like in real life if someone fucks with any friend of mine you can bet I'll step up if needs be. Swaps can take care of himself, but in this particular case circumstances and one last asshat pushed him out and that's garbage. I find it unconscionable that people who have benefited from interactions with him (Swaps) could sit back and NOT feel like this is wrong. Whatever....
Lastly, this is for all intents and purposed a clubhouse. It's public for better or worse, but it's still a clubhouse. The inference in that is that there are certain properties of a 'club' that are in play here, not the least of which is 'membership'. Since this IS a public forum, that membership here takes on the import of the relationships you build within and how you choose to administer those relations. We don't have a secret handshake, membership cards or spiffy hats. Rather, we have fellowship based on these interactions and relationships we create. That's something else I'll fight for, what better to stand for than fellowship?
That fellowship, since it doesn't come with an ID card or silly hat or anything else physical. it takes on a far more personal import.
Fellowship, unlike membership must be earned.
It must be earned and has nothing to do with gangs or cliques. You want to be embraced in friendship? Earn it.
Swapmeet Louie EARNED our fellowship AND my friendship.
Others however have a piece of work to do to earn it.
I'd love to have that fellowship with everyone but I scrape shit off the sole of my boots too.
