hey all ,i just realized i havent done a formal intro on here ,and ive been nosing around on here as a member for months! well i have been around motorcycles basically all of my years on this earth, thanks to a father who became a father at a very early age ,and thought it a good idea to put a 1 yr old on the tank of his cb450 and ride up and down the dirt road we lived on. : soooo anyway i am somewhat new to cafe's and the such althou i always thought they were pretty freaking cool.and as i get older i find myself looking more and more to the vintage stuff. anyway my grandfather runs a large auction yard that i work at a couple days a week and one day months ago i came into work and there it layed on its side. it was A (wait for it.. wait for it..) thats right a freaking 1980 cb400t piece-o-hell! : anyhow i bought it for next to nothing, and started tearing it apart ,once that started i knew i needed a good resource and i first found the "other"cafe site, but basically found alot of them to be elitist assholes ,so i searched some more and found this awesome site, and have been here since! im gonna try to post some pics of my little piece of hell, and maybe start a build thread .anyway thats my story. thanks for reading !
Very nice work you got going on there man ! have to say i really like the tank and seat set up . did you move the rear shock top mount down the frame some ? i know if you mess with it to much you could have a unstable ride at higher speeds with the shorter wheel base so please be safe ! maybe add a stablelizer to help that out but over all man very nice build you got going keep it up !
thanks guys ,yeah my shop is my own little cinder block slice of heaven. And god knows that thing had to be one of the ugliest bikes i have ever seen. as far as the shock mounts go , these shocks are 14 1/2 long and stock was 13 i believe and since i built the whole subframe area ,i just took the factory shock angle and added a few degress to help with turn in and set it up that way.and its funny you brought up a steering dampner, i fabbed up the mount for one last nite . guess i need to start a build thread.
NIce work, I have the CM version of your ugly duckling. I like that steering damper Mount too. You bolted it to the horn location right? I want one for my bike as when you get to full throttle 6th gear it can get a bit butt puckering if the wind is high and she starts to wooble.
yeah i believe that is where the stock horn was. i just took a piece of 1/4 plate steel drilled and tapped it, then welded it to the frame. tim is one of these pics the one your looking for?
