Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 - STATUS: STOLEN

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

you'd just be stealing ideas i stole from other people on the board. thanks for the compliments though, it means a lot!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

bleh. still not charging after replacing the stator. next stop, professional mechanic.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

Love the LED tail lights! I'm planning on doing similar on my CB360; I want to put them behind some smoked or frosted lexan so they're invisible when they're off.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

I'll ask on facebook if anyone I know has moved to Seattle area.
long shot but you never know, one of guys I knew moved to California, got married and became a professional stunt rider

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

i took it to a mechanic and he thinks the used stator i replaced mine with is bad. old bike barn has a new one but it's almost $300. i've got another 360 that i was planning on putting back together but i think i'll just rip out the stator and officially declare it a parts bike.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

Check electric motor repair, it may be a lot cheaper to get stator rewound with better quality insulation.
Friend of mine re-wound his stator with just two coils to use for racing and did a second with extra windings on each post for a higher output.
It's more time consuming than difficult.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

well my mechanic just gave up on my motorcycle. blech.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

I would probably try the spare....can't hurt! You've already done it before. Worth a shot.

Not much of a mechanic then, electrical system on that thing is about as simple as it gets.
He does actually understand basic electrical principles? (as opposed to 'I can get anything running' ::) )

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

I tried reading backwards through the thread to work out what was wrong and what had already been tried. I see replacement stator and rectifier. Did you replace the regulator at the same time? And does it sit on a nice heat sink if you bought an electronic one to replace the original electro mechanical one?

Those dump surplus electrons as heat through a zener diode or something similar and need good ventilation.

If you bought a combined R/R from Oregon, ask Tony Weeks if you can send it back for him to check it.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

i did get it from oregon, it get's plenty of air flow so i doubt that's the problem.

the mechanic said the stator was reading bad but it seems unlikely to me that my original stator, the one i bought off e-bay, and the one that i pulled out of my previously functional parts bike would all be bad.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

Pretty sure he's either not testing them right or not testing them at all.
Lot of 'mechanics' are scared of electrical systems and a lot of 'customers' know even less so they take it as gospel truth
Anybody want to donate to a 'PJ makes a how to test CB360 electrical systems video' fund? ;D

I just had a thought, maybe I could just make the vid and sell CD?

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

not having the lg/r wire (that goes to the neutral light) that comes off the stator connected wouldn't affect the charging system, would it?

i'll be tearing into the bike soon and i'm trying to think of possible problems before i get started.

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(HELP! battery not charging. again.)

Nope, neutral lead is just a grounding wire, doesn't have any effect on charging.

Im starting to like unemployed PJ.

I'll buy it.

I like the sound of that.
Makes me laugh ;D 8)

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(wiring diagram help.)

the plan is to re-do the wiring. i've got a short somewhere which is at least preventing the bike from running and maybe the reason the battery is not charging.

so i made up this wiring diagram:

6170725569_4e27336bf6_b.jpg

i've never done this before so please point out everything i've done wrong.

i don't have blinkers or electric start or gauges.

you'll notice the rectifier and the alternator both have unused wires coming off them... i'm not sure if i goofed or if they're not necessary.

thanks in advance guys!

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(wiring diagram help)

Your diagram shows that the rectifier is not connected to the battery at all, that could be why there's no charging going on.
Check these connections, add if not there:

1) connect the red/white wire from the rectifier to the red wire from the key switch.
2) connect the green wire from the rectifier to ground (frame).
3) connect the white wire from the stator to the yellow wire from the stator.

Hope this heps,
Bob D

Re: Lazarus - 1975 Cl360 -(anybody got a 1.0 oversized piston?)

i'm having the top end of the engine rebuilt. i broke a piston ring and pieces went everywhere. i'm getting the cylinders bored out and putting in oversize pistons.
two people on ebay were selling single 1.0mm over pistons at a good price so i ordered them and two ring kits. the next day one of the sellers writes to tell me he didn't actually have the piston. so now i need to find another. i know it's a long shot but if anybody has one or knows where i can get one i'd appreciate it. mostly i'm just annoyed and wanted to vent!
