license plate visibility

Toronto popo pulled me over on the weekend to tell me that he would "need a helicopter to read my license plate". Apparently the angle of the plate angle made it "not entirely visible". $110 fine to be rescinded if corrected within 15days, under what law i'm unsure.
The plate is attached to a new taillight which was moved higher up the fender for aesthetic purposes really.

no question here guys, just a note.

I get pulled over for that almost every night I ride my bike. They make me bend it down right then and there and don't ticket me. It's usually late at night on my way home, in the same spot 2 minutes from my place. I think once they realize I'm in my 40's riding an ancient motorcycle and not planning to run from the police and hide my plate, they give a warning and that's that.

Now if they kept track of how many times I've been warned, then I'd be in deep trouble :p

Got pulled over on my 999 today for the same thing. The PO had the plate relocated in front of the rear tire. Wrote me a ticket that would be written off when I moved it out where it should be and brought the bike to the CHP office to show them.

Fixed it when I got home, but apparently I will still get charged a $25 fee for "troubling" them.

Went downtown to sort it out and it looks like the officer gets the last laugh. Turns out its not as simple as just showing a photo of the corrected problem, I need to meet with a prosecutor to have the ticket rescinded. More wasted time for everyone involved.

Seconds before riding past an accident scene with a ton of cops my licence plate bolts decided to let go, plate banging off the rear tire. As I pulled onto a side street to fix it one of the cops pulled me over. He asked if I was gonna stop and fix it I said yeah but not on the parkway. He actually gave me some of those zip ties they use instead of handcuffs to fix it, gave me shit about the bike, and left.

Closest thing to a good encounter with a cop Ive ever had.

thinking back on it I was a retard for not using nylock nuts.

Sucks. Just checked the map and it looks like you live a couple blocks from me. I'm just up in the Junction.

It's been a while since I checked, but doesn't Dime City sell a spring loaded license plate frame? IIRC, it hangs almost straight down when stopped, but wind resistance at speed lays it straight back. Pretty sure it would be easier / cheaper than getting tickets.

BR, if I recall correctly, those are illegal in some states due to them being a "heavily modified license display". They consider it a mechanical device which serves the purpose of hiding the license numbers in the event of a chase. Kind of a half assed attempt to throw one more ticketable offense out there, but you might want to check local laws before getting something like that.

Here in Virginia, It has to be even with the rear axle or behind, and illuminated at night. This is due to all the squids on sportbikes mounting their plate on the inner fender in front of the tire.
