Lighting Switch

Been Around the Block
I don't know how many on here have neons on your bikes but I just put some on my Harley. I'm not sure how or where to mount a switch though. How did you guys set it up?

Eh, it's not my thing, but to each his own ;)

"How and where" would depend on alot of things. Are the lights something you plan to switch on/off while in motion? On always, or only at night? What does the switch look like?

And I'm curious, are they actually "neon" or LED's?

They're LEDs. Neon was a term used when I was younger for accessory lighting. I have rocker and lever switches available without buying anything extra. I want to just wire them to the battery so they can be on anytime I hit the switch. There just doesn't seem to be any good place to mount one.

I figured LED's, just wanted to make sure ;)

You can get micro switches from places like Radio Shack, in both push button and toggle styles. They make mounting much easier in tight spaces.

Post a pic of you bike, and the dash/gauges. A generic internet pic is fine. I just need an idea of what I'm loking at ;)

Here is the bike and dash. They're the best pics I have. I don't want to do anything that will be permanently visible. I may sell the bike in the future and Harleys sell better if they're more original.

My suggestion would be something like this...
http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9214989/00161/
It uses an adhesive backing so you could mount it just about anywhere you like with ease, and it'll remove cleanly whenever you decide to sell.

wow... advice on how to install LED underlighting on a Harley here on DTT... that's just crazy. Yet, biker code I suppose.

You could mount it next to the billet chrome live to ride cup holder, and run the wires along the the heated grip cable.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. ;)

It's the Apocalypse, man. Are you prepared for the end of the World, because it is nigh...

LED under lighting with some clipons and a fender removal would be cool. You might have to ditch the forward controls.

Get to work son!

Ouch the agony. I would continue to ride cafes but I don't have time to work on them anymore. I want to hack this thing into a street fighter but the guys I ride with would kill me. Its an anniversary so I don't want to change too much. I like the blue stick on button switch. I may find one of those.

Get some stick on chrome flames, and some bullet hole stickers, and you will be rockin'!

(jes kiddin')

I got it all taken care of. I didn't want to drill a hole but I put one in the front of the dash where no one would see it anyway.

Thats a blue alright. I think you need to name this bike "Iceman".

Well, you wanted to get more attention. I suspect that will happen, although you may not be entirely pleased with the attention you might get from law enforcement. Blue lights anywhere on a vehicle is illegal in most states. Blue is reserved for use by law enforcement only.

Illinois has always done things different. Blue is OK as long as it isn't flashing. Ambulances and firetrucks here are required to convert to red when they get replaced. Police are still allowed blue though. I work for the police department and I checked with the traffic officers before doing it. They told me they wouldn't pull someone over for an equipment violation anyway unless it is a safety issue. They actually promote accessory lights on motorcycles. People here are stupid drivers so anything to draw their attention is accepted. Volunteer fireman are allowed blue strides on their personal vehicles also but they must still follow all traffic laws.
