Im running clip ons, and it'll be awhile before my bike is up and running so i have time to change it if need be...

Of course my clipons are hittin my tank a bit, (not running a stock tank) would limiting the steering about, 1/4 an inch or less (probably less) on each side be a big deal? it doesnt seem like you turn that sharp anyway when riding??

A 1/4 inch is not a big deal at all. The only time you should ever hit the steering stops is when parking the bike - not when riding.

You can either put dents in the tank so the bars wont hit (a lot of work) or weld some bigger steering stops on the bottom of the triple tree.

Thanks alot! (was gonna go the welding route..)

Figured that was the case, but figured i'de leave it up to the experts! ;D

That's exactly what we used to do on cafe racers and still do on race bikes to stop bars from denting the tank or crushing thumbs.

Good to know it can be done and no ill effects!

ACU/FIM say 2" clearance between closest part of hand grip area and tank
