Hi,
I just moved over here E. of Pittsburgh,PA. in Westmoreland county a year and a half ago and want to find someone who's a good dude to bring machine work to;if I can't find anyone local I'll send my parts away but don't like to do that.I live in an apt. and work out of a storage that I'm renting & it doesn't have electricity.I'm batting '0' so far on the last 2 people that do machine work around here...;I brought them my parts and they didn't do anything. The last kid did a couple things(he advertises on ebay & don't seem to care) but he's giving up too. I'm also looking for someone local who'll do a few small welding jobs for me.
I want to get a couple little cylinders honed to fit & a crank rebuilt to start with and don't think it's right to charge $85 to hone a little 40mm cyl. out .010in. which is what the local 'auto machine shop' want's me to pay;I have other work for a bike machinist and a welder that I need done also.. I'm only working part time now and need to pay the rent, food, bills, etc. but I Will pay as soon as the job is done.
I was waiting all Winter for the first machine work dude(who dropped one of the cast iron cylinders and ruined it;I had to get another one and he wouldn't reimburse me for it :'( ) and he never even did a thing.
thanks for any feedback

There is a shop in Latrobe, just past the Latrobe Walmart, just prior to the 981 exit that might be able to help. I cant think of the name, but i drive past on my way to work, so ill update this post monday. Also, give Mosites motorsports a call, they are fairly active in the dirtbike world around here...if they dont offer services they maybe able to help you out finding someone.

Shoot me a private message if you need help getting ahold of either place - I live in Jeannette.

Yeah, thanks Evorussell,I'd like to know if there's anyone around who can actually help w/ this work. happy Easter

The machine shop dude who I have the parts with now refuses to answer his phone or return messages(for 3 weeks) and now all I want to do is go over there w/ a policeman and ask him to give all my parts back to me. How would I follow up with that ? Anyone ever been in that situation where you need a way to get a shop/worker that's holding your parts and won't return calls to do the right thing? Anyone here have any other ideas for me ? it's Spring time and I NEED those parts back. I don't owe him $ but I have $ to pick up the parts... I'm at a loss to know what to do next.. ::)

does PA have a Better Business Bureau that you could call and report his lack of response? That usually gets things done around here in NY.

They probably do.
I'm just thinking to go to the town where he lives local police dept. and ask an officer to take my statement, etc. and describe to him the situation including the dog biting me the last time I was there 3 weeks ago.
I just never get a response every time I've called.. ::) ,just an answering machine. I plan on doing this on Thurs. if I don't hear from the man by then. The kid works out of his parents 2 car garage and it's like a 'home business'. I just looked online last night and found his dad's home business ph.# and called & spoke w/ his mother and all I got from her was "huh,oh,well..,uh huh..." retards.

it's not his parent's fault he's dodging you, and they very well may not know of his poor business practices. you never know....but your plan to speak with the local police is a fair approach.

Well, his mother didn't inspire me to believe that she'd even speak w/ him about it...
I just hope to get the parts back soon so that i can give them to a better place that'll receive calls & get my jobs finished.. ::)

What other choices do I have besides calling & leaving messages?
He and his folks live way out in the county away from other houses and he works his business out of his parents 2 car garage,I think he has another job in the early part of the day.. but don't know for sure.I called him on the phone that evening after I got back home the last time I was there(Mar.17)and said "I don't ever want to get bit by your dog again!,so let me know when that one cylinder is done(I have other parts w/ him but Really Need the little cyl. to finish a job) and call me and Please put the dog in the truck like you usually do and I'll come up and pick it up" and he said "ok" ??? ::) I've called after 1.5 weeks No Answer or return message and then called him every other week after two times a week... I work on bikes and NEED a good machinist;a local guy would be a Big plus ::) :-\ what to do... ??? ?
I've never dealt w/ anyone like this before and just not sure how to proceed correctly....

I really only just want to go up there and pay him for what he's done(if anything)so far,get all my 10 parts back and then put it all behind me;I know about another helpful forum member(from another forum) who says I can send all the parts to him over near Richmond,VA. and he'll bring them to his machinist and they'll 'do me right' and so far that's the direction I want to go.
I work out of a storage w/ no elec. and only have a few jobs and can barely pay my rent/bills.. this situation can pretty much destroy me if I let it.

Hi, I just moved here from NC. to Delmont 1.5 yrs. ago and so far just have a couple small cycle repair jobs plus I'm doing odd jobs to supplement me till I get a few more customers.. This weather has been brutal and I really don't even know if folks are going to pull their cycles out or not.. I'm considering moving again possibly CA. where there's more Sun :) !
That's my plan.
I'm just wanting to get 2 little NC50 cylinders honed/bored .007-.010in. They measure 40mm and can probably only be machined w/ an auto/truck precision connecting rod hone set up for different large rods(that's what a guy did for me in NC.) and finished up w/ 400 grit stones.I also would like an XR200 crank rebuilt(I have the rod kit, etc.)when I find someone who I can trust..

thanks for asking Begyed13 and I'd like to see if local can work out;do you know of someone around the area ?

I'd drive to Uniontown,PA. Powderfinger just to get out of this area for a few.. ::)
I did go to the State police barracks in Greensburg,PA. today and the dude behind the glass who deals w/ the public actually reached the kid who has my parts and told him "get the parts ready for him to p-up" :) I drove over there after 5:30 and then picked up everything(I thought..)and payed the guy for 2 jobs he did.
I got back to my apt. and remembered there was one last part I forgot..the left clutch cover,so I called him and he actually answered the phone  this time(motivated)and told me he would call me(huh ??? no sh*# ?!)tomorrow after his day job at the automotive machine shop and I can come p-up that last part. AllRight ;) I can then have parts to try again;better luck next time, right?! lol

I finally called the machine shop guy about that last part last night after waiting to hear from him,I left a message at 6:45PM and finally heard back from him at 7:40 and he said I could come and get the last part.I went to pick it up and now No More Worries about that !
:-[ :) I need to be more careful next time I find a machinist..
