We picked up a 79 XS 650 special as a barn find, but the electrical is fubar'd I'm told that I need to find a regulator, a rectifier and rotor for the charging system to be working again. So I'm basically looking for any XS 650 running or not, in eastern Ont (ottawa), OR looking for the above parts.

help!

I'm sure there are some of us who can maybe help out.

First off, who told you that you needed these parts? It sounds like whoever it was is basically advising you to replace every component of the charging system to get it up and running again. While that will probably work, you may only need 1 of those parts.

You can test each component, or at least eliminate some as problems through some basic tests. Do you have a multimeter?

You might already know about it but mikesxs.com is an amazing resource for the xs650. Follow Tim's advice and there are several other knowledgeable xs650 advisors(for lack of a better word).

Good luck and have fun with it!!!

Get the bike running first straight off the battery. Then you can decide what needs to be replaced for the charging system.

Go see Cyclemaster in Ashton, near Stittsville. He will sort you out ;D He's a great dude and has tons of XS parts. He build XS650s for fun, and runs a cycle shop.

I guess I should have clarified. I know that I need the above components. My brother is a licensed motorcycle mechanic and has done all the ground work here. We've had and XS "expert" come take a look and he confirmed my brother's suspicions. Basically the bike got pretty fried after the new owner we sold it to left it out in a torrential downpour, and as you guys know, these old bikes don't like getting really wet!

The dude in Stittsville will be my first call... I used to use him as a resource back when Cycle Salvage was still open. But if anyone here has those specific components, I'm interested.
