I have a maine drivers license and i am living in NY for the summer and I was wondering if I could get a nys motorcycle license does anyone have any info on this?

I'm not sure there's any purpose in doing that unless your Maine license doesn't have a motorcycle endorsement. You could take the MSF course in NY, and then send the card to the Maine DMV to get your Maine motorcycle license that way. But by the time you went through all the trouble, summer would be over.

If you don't live in NY permanently it's probably not possible as most states require you to prove residency to obtain a driver's license. This typically involves living in that state for a year and proof of it, such as paying a utility bill for a house in said state.

You don't have to live in a state for a year -- just prove residency with a couple documents, such as a utility bill. States want you to switch over license (and registration(s)) ASAP so they can start collecting their $. IF your ME license doesn't have a moto endorsement, and you want to ride in NYC, easiest thing to do would be head back to ME and get it -- if you're over 18 you shouldn't have to take a course, just pass the written and riding exams. The absolutely easiest thing to do would be to blow it off and just ride, but that's obviously a roll of the dice. In WA state, when I was (much) younger, the common practice was to get your rider's permit (which meant you had to be riding with someone over 21 with an endorsement -- not on the same bike, of course), and wait until you got pulled over before you actually went in to get the endorsement.

Thanks for the input..I have been riding without any documents for a while and I'd like to get my papers.... The only reason Im keeping my maine license is because I bought my bike in maine without a title but I got a official maine bill of sale and its an 81 so I can regsiter it up there without a title.. But getting a license in maine is actually more of a pain in ME then NY for some reason.. One has to take a 8hr course just to receive a permit and then take a road test or msf course .. I cant get out of NY to go up and take the test since I work all week it would be easyier to pop into a dmw and take the written test in ny but then im not sure if I can register in NY without a title or in ME with a NY license...I'll have to call the dmw and see if I can get it registered in NY and then just switch my license back and if not ill have to bite the bullet and get a ME license
