I make my own rules
I bought both of these for a hunsky. The red one is a Yamaha XS 650. Kind of a cool bike. Looks just like a Truimph twin.
In the workshop. Yeah, I have a garage, but it is for the bikes I ride. Plus the house has a better climate control system. I just need to figure out how to make a nice looking toolbox.
I cut the back end off. Went with a Yamaha rz350 swing arm. I like the shock in the swing arm look opposed to the over the top thing. Cleans the back up. I think I will replace the steel arm with either a fabricated peice, or something I can get that I like. Kind of worried about the rear tube supporting all of this load. I guess we will see, but I am not altering my vision. I havent welded the seat post on yet because I need to get a tube fished through the joint for the wiring.
I cut this today for the mono shock conversion. Not sure if it will be the prefect placement for the shock, but if I need to machine another pair it is too easy. Not sure how the weight will change the attitude.
So the next thing is to start on a tank and tail section. I am going to build it from sheet aluminum. I have no idea how to do it. I have joined all of the sheet metal forums, and watched every youtube video. I still have no idea. I am thinking of machining an aluminum buck in a top and bottom section, and then pounding the metal around it. Then welding the sections together. If anyone has experience here I would like help. I am doing it in metal so no composites.
The look I am going for is like the tail of a Auburn boatail speedster.
I think I am going very clean and classy. All glossy black with little steampunk look to it. Like an overlay of polished copper/brass in an olde style fluted bicycle lug thing over the top of the black.
