MC video games on drugs.

Blake

the future is my friend
So I got my wisdom teeth removed Tuesday morning. Wife says I mixed imaginary drinks for the Dr. and nurses and tried to tip the nurses $. I also rode an invisible motorcycle around the operating room and did a drunk dance to the wheel chair. I also gave a synopsis of the movie Days Of Thunder before passing out in bed (which my wife video taped).
My wife has been the best. She took me to Sears "just to look around at tools" ('cause it's my normal weekly routine), and bought me a used PS2 game "Tourist Trophy." HOLY GOD. I don't know if it's the medication or what, but my heart races with this game! It feels pretty realistic for a video game. It's hard as heck with the vicodin in my system. I do much better when my pain meds are wearing off. I spent the first 30 minutes crashing into turn 1 over and over and over.......
Anyone else play this game? It took forever but I finally managed to win the CB400SS and Yamaha cafe bikes. Up next: the '81 CB750.

Are there any other MC games with more classic bikes? I've been out of the video game loop for a while. This week of vacation has me digging through all my old PS2 games for some classic kicks.

I've got Tourist Trophy and it's pretty fun. As well, it was coded by guys who actually ride and or consulted with riders/racers. It's the same team that put together GT3 and GT4 so technically it's pretty good. All the techniques you'd use on the track are needed in the game, the trick is to translate that to the controller....and that kicked my butt a lot.

I built a sit down race car to play GT4 with a bucket seat I took out of my autocross car, puts the wheel and pedals where you'd want'm and the TV screen 1 couple feet in front of your face like a sit down arcade game. That made all the difference in GT4, I can pull a 5:50-ish lap of Nuremberg in the WRX touring car as long as I don't have any off track excursions.

I'd imagine that TT would be really fun with a leanable chassis to sit on.....

Needless to say, my wife won't let me drive my truck our touch my bikes, so this is my only means of "driving" this week. She drove my truck today and as always... it sure is hot to see a girl driving a big ol' pickup truck. I told her I'd have to snap a pic next time.

Our housemates have a Wii and we bought an Indy 500 games with classic racers from the '50s-'70s. We "built" a chassis out of a chair, stool, some couch cushions, blankets, and pie tins. It was a real site. We threw on our motorcycle helmets, grabbed the Wii wheel and had a blast for hours.

That's officially awesome, you win an internet.

I tried getting into MotoGP but I disliked how the bike flipped so easily left and right, seemed very unrealistic. Gonna pick up Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City which includes Lost and the Damned where you can ride a lot of choppers, bobbers and street bikes. Might try to find that game you mentioned. Other than that I'm lookign forward to Test Drive Unlimited 2.

Dude, try the 'Midnight Club 3' (I've got the Dub Edition Remix version) game for Xbox...thats awesome for sport bikes and bobbers. Pretty unrealistic in terms of actual driving/riding but the sense of speed and actual gameplay is awesome, especially when you get to rip the occasional slow-mo bullet time and ride the hell out of the bike. Its got cars in there too, my fav is the '76 Chevelle.

I actually really like MotoGP, although I've only got the original 2001 game which was the last year for 500cc 2T's across the board. I mean, I rode an Aprilia RS125 (yeah, I know, I do bang on about it...) with a shagged rear shock and it handled bloody well at any speed, I can only imagine that the MotoGP bikes would be a hell of a lot better. It seems like a fairly realistic game, but if the Forza Motorsport guys got hold of it it'd probably be way better...I love Forza Motorsport.

Cheers - boingk

OK so I went out and got a copy of Tourist Trophy for $5. Pretty good graphics for the PS2, animations and controls seem pretty decent though the game obviously suffers from lack of controlled acceleration (due to the old PS2 controller). Great selection of bikes too. But here's what's bothering me, I can't win a bloody challenge, as in the game is HARD! Just doing the 250cc 2-stroke class and I can't catch the lead bike for nothing. I mean...How the hell can I catch a lead motorcycle that is programmed to do every line perfect and already has a 1/4 mile lead? Even worse the game seems to invite players to brake while cornering which is just wrong.

So I went back to try the MotoGP 09/10 and first impressions were confirmed, the game is twitchy as hell. It's annoying. Now, I herd MotoGP 06 is well reviewed so I'm wondering if I should go hunt down a copy of that. I know Gran Turismo 5 is to have motorcycles so I'm curious about that. SBK Superbike World Championship I herd sucks, there are motorcycles in Burnout Paradise but I'm looking to try out bikes like a RVF400 and 1098R. Not many options for motorcycle racing video games.

tourist trophy is as good as it gets... havent played in a while, but if the game encourages braking mid turn, than its probably because all the racing lines are taken from gran turismo. ;)

SBK isnt all that bad (pretty realistic as far as games go), but i only play it on PSP.

Tourist trophy was hard.... thats what made it so damn good. wish you had more tunability though, but the individualized riders was a nice touch (skinnier riders were faster while accelerating but bigger riders could turn in faster.... try it!). loved how many bikes were in it, and some seriously good ones also.

no matter what, its hard to get the feel of a motorcycle in a game... its done pretty well for cars (with a good logitech wheel and a game with great physics its damn near the real thing!) but bikes are just too complex. its hard to get the physics right... i mean, countersteering plus leaning is hard to get the physics right on. you could make a bike with car physics, but it simply wouldnt work.

I did game design on a drifting game a while ago. nowadays i just make cars for games i download and use it for personal use, taking a greater interest in the physics than the game play xD)

I got everyone in the waiting room laughing after my wisdom teeth were pulled. When I woke up after, I asked the dentist for my teeth. He told me that they were thrown away because they were cut up. I wept like a bitch and kept shouting that he had no right to throw them away. After a few minutes I realized how dumb I was being and shut up. The room I was in was the closest to the waiting room so everyone could hear me crying about my teeth.
Tourist Trophy is a fun game. I just got MotoGP 09/10 today for the XBizzle.

Now I got the itch to game. I've been thinking about replaying one of the old GTA's but I think i might pick up motogp '06. only 6bucks at gamestop, wish I had PS2 to play Tourist Trophy. Sounds awesome.

Too bad theres no Rockers vs Mod's game, yet. Would love to see a circa Vice city / San Andreas Rockstar rendering of that game. would be badass.

I actually just read this! So nuts, I can't believe how determined and nuts this kid is. 5 planes and no formal flight training experience. Its really something, he's got some crazed wild west spirit in him.

I really wonder what got him caught, I mean I know they were on high alert on the island he crash landed on, but was he just too cocky? pushed it too far? Could he have stowed away on some boat got back to the states or went to mexico? I wonder.

Very interesting.

What a killer blog btw, thanks for link blake. I've been scrolling this thing non stop since!

god damn! amazing kid... lived a way most people can only think of in their wildest fantasies.
