Mechanical help cb350f

Hello, about three years ago I purchased a cb350 four in mint condition. It ran great with a slight cam chain rattle. After 6 months I decided to tighten the cam chain tensioner bolt and snapped the bolt off.. Yes I know rookie mistake.

Long story short I brought it to a guy and my engine was reassembled. While riding the bike home it began to get really hot and smokey. I brought the bike back and the same thing happened. I brought my bike home and had a guy called lunderterry(on instagram) come out and help me adjust my tappets timing points gap, etc. Once he left I took the bike for a ride 20 minutes into the ride I started to hear a knocking noise.

I have had the bike for 3 years and pay insurance and have only ridden it about 20 times. I have hit rock bottom and need serious help with my bike. I love her to death and I fear that this is internal. Is there anyone in the northern Jersey or nyc area that can come help out or I can take my bike to. I am willing to pay.

here are some audio samples of the bike

Is there a chance you skipped a tooth on the timing gear when the tensioner bolt snapped off? Hot and smokey sounds like a timing issue. If so, then I don't think any adjusting of the points is going to make the problem go away.

Sounds like a sloppy rocker, if the hack didnt tighten a jam nut right an adjuster could be backing out... Find a known reliable motorcycle specific mechanic that is familiar with the motor and have them look things over.

Another thing to look at is the rollers on the chain tensioners they can wear prematurely making a nasty noise and will fail shortly after.

This is a test of the emergency motorcycle broadcast system. This is only a test.

Mint, with a chain rattle huh. Ok, I now have an idea of what i'm working with.

The rookie mistake was not doing the work to find out how to do it correctly. I've never snapped a cam chain adjuster bolt, I was once a rookie as well. Some people just don't have it, and that's fine, but there's a time to realize it.

Aguy? You brought it to a guy? What, might I ask, was this guy's profFession?

I'm just learning about instagram. I don't like it.

You need to find a good shop, and start a relationship with their accounting dept.

How was it running before it started making noise again? How'd you get the bike back to where you started? I bet I know.

There's a hotline for that.

with my bike.
OH, ok. So it's not as serious as you make it sound. It's just a motorcycle.

Oh no back to the anguish. I'll assume you have medication for that.

PM WildeJ, he has the lowdown on all the good shops in New York

Well that's good, because most good mechanics are going to charge you for every mistake made up to this point.

You have now had amateurs hands in your engine not once, not twice, but at least 3 times. What you need is a full rebuild. No tech worth his salt is going to trust a single thing about that engine now. A band-aid wont fix a damaged kidney.
