METZELER vs. AVON

Been Around the Block
Ok.... so I'm having a tough time making a decision... maybe some of you can help me make it final?
I'm turning my CB550 into street/sport/cafe bike... much like Squirley's 550, http://img517.imageshack.us/i/pic0007ep.jpg/

I can decide whether to get a set of the Metzeler Lasertec;
http://www.metzelermoto.com/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page?uri=/metzeler/en_IT/browser/xml/catalog/moto/SportTouring_Lasertec.xml

or a set of the Avon Roadrider;

maybe some of you have ran both... or have incite to witch one you feel is better..?

any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
thanks
Cam.

welcome to the forum! i have heard nothing but good things about the avons... seems they are the best tires around for street use.

either way they will be a huge improvement over stock.

see i would much rather run Metzlers on a bike they get a ton more miles! i run them on my st bob, Some of the other tires like 300+ sizes we have to go with Avon because they make some of the best big rim tires. but for street bikes and performance, i am a Metzler rider all the way!

thanks Rocan.. kinda new to this site.. seems pretty cool so far.

JRK5892.... how do you find the Metz in the rain?

like glue! my buddies have been running them on BMW for years, both his rockster and his adventure have them, they are awsome tires! i was so impressed by the way he could turn wiht them i dropped down from a 180 rear on my st bob to a 170 just to run a Metzler, sucks to loose the size but the grip and handling is unreal!

Cool!!! I hear a couple people on another forum say the Avon's are a real good tire.. but could be a little better in the rain.. so far everyone that has run the Metz say their as great in the wet as they are on the dry.... seeing as I'm going to ride rain or shine... daily driver... I like the idea of being ready for both surfaces.. Just wish they weren't over $270.00 more for a set than the Avon's.... but I guess... you get what you pay for? LOL

I have Avons on my 78 550k ....... the Roadriders do not seem to be affected by tar snakes,and in southern Ontario there are alot of them.........never ridden in the rain with them.Dry roads seem quite sticky

I had Metzlers on my 84 r80rt and found that the front end was squirmy on tar snakes

If you really want ultimate grip, go for Avon Venom race compounds. Not cheap but I bought a pair of used ones and have put maybe 5000 kms on them so far. Tire wear isn't as bad as I thought. They should hold up for the rest of the season with another 8000 kms to go.
