mikes xs cafe seat

xs650

"proffessor of old school"
Just recieved the cafe seat from mikes xs parts today, What a great seat for $199.00 free shipping. i will post pics as soon as i get my camera working again  I would recomend this to anyone building a yamy 650. quality is great, looks are super, best deal ive seen in years to be so inexpensive.
has an old norton look to it when mounted. comes with all the pins and hinges, pops right on a stocker. i had to make mounts as had removed all mine for a differant seat. im also running a tt500 tank and it met up at the tank just fine.

Shoot! Go buy a camera, take some pics and then take the camera back! We want pics!

Yea i guess i need to do that! this seat is sweet!, i never really liked the rear hump area uphostered, but this one is cool as hell !i still have to post the gas tank conversion pics also. the square tank from the xs500 ( i said tt500 before) fits really nice. has a real vintage look to it now.

i'll soon be installing a 1978 yamaha xs1100 tank on a 1979 kz1000. any comments/pics about your tank conversion would be appreciated. many thx!

Hey Duncan, don't take this the wrong way... but... why??

Just curious! ;) ;D

the 1970s z1 and kz900/1000 tanks are all a 'tear drop' shape....the early z1 are slim and the later kz1000 and kz1000 LTD tanks get progressively chunkier ....but they're all essentially a tear drop shape.

i prefer the 'breadloaf' shape.

this post inspired me to try out the xs1100 tank on my bike. a chunkier breadloaf shape....

Cool!

Have you seen the 80/81 KZ1000ST tank? It's pretty 'chunky' and a little bigger (volume) than most of the other KZ tanks.

i thought about the early 80s kz tank, but that xs1100 tank is big, chunky, rounded lines, black with old school gold pinstriping that highlights the knee dents ....

....it was love at first sight ;D

edit: of course if i were still in my prime, i'd still see the virtues of tear drop tanks

unfortunately i'm WAY past my prime.... :'(

I just installed a stock XS seat from Mikes XS onto a stock bike. The seat was really nice but there were a couple of minor issues with it: first the hinges were reveresed; the front one was on the back and vise-versa. Secondly the latch hook was about 1/4" out of position and had to be cut to fit the latch on the frame. No big deal but not something I was expecting. One other thing if you were looking for concourse quality (and I'm not) there were a few dings in the rear of the chrome trim. Don't take these as harsh critisisms - the seat is great . It looks good and feels good. I would buy another if I had to.
