so i have my stock cl350 which is basically new, i cut the carb end ball to fit some others carbs i had and now i have mikunis, so to attach the cables do i solder the brass ball they sell online? or one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motion-Pro-Cable-Fittings-Carb-End-short-fr-1-5mm-Wire-01-0012-/400355125118?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3706677e&vxp=mtr
finally can i make a chunk of lead at the end of the cable to put the slide up? any suggestions is appreciated, i really would hate to buy a new cable having a barely used one
I'm sorry, but what? You cut the little lead ball at the end of the inner cable because you're attaching other carbs?
Do you have a manual? Do some research before you damage the bike any more.
You should have just detached the carbs from the cables. No need to cut anything.
New cables come with the lead balls on it. Soldering your own knobbies is a no-go to me.
You will need to buy a new cable. Why did you remove the OEM carbs anyway?
I'm sorry but chopping a critical part of the cable like this doesn't really fall into the category of "barely used".
the VM30s (28s and 32s, also) will use throttle nipple fittings, not the ball, or the OEM style barrel fittings to attach the carbs. so those are the right ones in your link.
Doing this yourself though can have a lot of bad repercussions. Firstly, this is a pretty critical system and if you make the ends of these brittle by improperly soldering them and then one breaks and gets sucked into the combustion chamber, you're going to have a bad day. also, there's a very small margin of error on the length of exposed cable you need to make these work right together. to much or too little and you're going to pull your hair out trying to get them synced and balanced correctly.
Your best bet would probably be to throw that chopped up cable away and get a new one. i used this on mine, make sure it'll fit for you, but it's solid and professional built. http://www.speedmotoco.com/product-p/029-331.htm
Do drama. End fittings are available to make up cables. The ebay link are suitable for the carb slide on most Keihin or Mikuni slide type carbs. If you cut off the throttle housing end you will need a suitable barrel shaped end fitting. They are available from Flanders Cables and you need one that matches the width and diameter of the throttle body and matches the diameter of your cable. Cables come in a number of different thicknesses, but throttles are typically 1.5 or 2.0mm IIRC.
If they are not soldered properly the ends come off and that will leave you stranded at best or the motor might even ingest an end fitting, so do your research and take your time to do it right.
I always use brass wood screws with a shoulder. Cut the shoulder out, drill a hole through the middle and solder it on. Figured that out from necessity.
