MiNE CB350

When to the local bike yard, Bill's Bone Yard, to buy parts for my XS. This bike was sitting by the gate. They just got it with no title. It is complete and stock. I gave bill $200 and took it home. It is dirty but otherwise sweet. the battery is dead but it shocks the hell out of you when it's kicked over. About 120 psi compression and the points look brand new.

I torn it down and the engine is now on my kitchen table.

It's really gross.

added 5" to the swing arm,

and it looks perfect. I love that the shock angle now matches the frame.

He is the helmet I am painting to match the bike. These are the colors it will end up being.

Cool man. Had one just like it. They actually handle really well with the extended swinger. I dig the helmet too.

What are the dimensions on the tube that you used to extend this? This looks really cool, how did you decide where to cut and what did you use to make the cut?
Thanks!

The revised shock angle will make a significant difference to the way they work. At a rough guess they will feel about 1.5 times as stiff as they used to ( I need to check my logic there).

The shorter (effective length) shocks will drop the back end and increase rake so it's harder to turn and more chopper like in its handling.

I also hope that you are a certified welder. I'd hate for that swingarm to break.

I think I used 1.25 tube with 3/16 wall. it has been a while since i purchased it. I cut it in the section that was the closest to straight, which was almost right to the axle. I welded a rod in between the ends before the cuts and checked everything with a level before and after. I made the cut with a hack saw by hand 'cause i fell I can keep it straighter that way and you lose very little material.

Don't worry about the welding. I am certified and so is the guy I had tig it. And it is sleeved.

My Wheels and polished hubs. These pics were taken inside my friends '31 ford. his floor is wood polished to mirror finish.

man, sweet deal. very nice work so far. and might i say wow to the polished floor in your buddies 31 ford. SWEET

Looks nice so far. What other plans besides extended swingarm? Drag bike CB 350? ;D

Thanks all!

Stiffer shocks you say? I am also not to worried about the stiffening of the springs. This will be a commuter doing 10-15 miles a day not a racer. My last bike had a metal seat so this is going to be caddy soft. haha. That one you can see here.

No other huge plans after the swing arm. I mostly want to get it back together and ride it! I need to get one finished quick and it wont be my XS. It's going to be a while. Here's that build CLICK HERE!

Thanks again for all the happy thoughts.

I hate filler so much that I talked my friend Matt into striping, filling and priming the tank for me. hell of a job he did too.

When he was done polishing his petcock ;) he started on the CB's

While he did that I got the forks rebuilt, the tapered bearings in and the triple on. Rebuilt the starter, the clutch and the oil filter.

First coat is done. hooray for rustoleum.

extended the brake stay and the brake linkage.

Then drilled the clubmans for wiring.

Very Cool! I've got a 350 I just started into... sorry if i missed reading this, but has all the paint been spray? I know you said rust-o-leum, but is that the case?
Thanks and i'll be watching this build!

nice work! paint looks awesome. wish i could just weld up some extensions to extend my swing arm but its a lil more involved than that with a shafty :(

yep. all rattle can. on the tank used a primer/filler first then wet sanded to 400 i think. then a few coats of orange and wet sanded it to 1000 grit. scuff the area for the strips with a scotch-brite, spray the white then when it drys scuff that with scotch-brite then clear and wet sand.
