Mission Impossible : Tires

Just picked up a 1967 CA160 for the wife. it only has 6600 miles on it but the tires are weather checked.

I have searched what i believe to be EVERYWHERE for a pair of 3.00 x 16 with a white wall.

No luck.

I found a 325 x 16 but am afraid it will be too big. And at $117 apiece before shipping, thats pretty risky.

The only other route I could find was a set of 300 x 16 black wall goodyears @ $45 a piece and a $30 bottle of whitewall paint.

Anyone have experience with that stuff? Or know where I can find the tires I'm looking for? I'll pay through the nose as its for the wifey and she REALLY WANTS WHITEWALLS.

thanks...

The only source for whitewalls in the right size for old Honda's (I searched high and low for my CA95) is Coker Tires, which is what I think you found at 325x16 and $117 each. They make Firestone whitewalls in the right size from licensed old Firestone molds.

A 1/4 inch bigger tire will be unnoticeable and everyone who puts whitewalls on these old Honda's uses the Coker tires. I was going to order them, but I am in Canada and the price goes WAAAAAY up when you start factoring in shipping, taxes and exchange rates. I was going to be over $400 for a pair of tires landed, and would still have to mount and balance.

I ended up just buying a cheap pair of Duro's or whatever they are for $95 total front and rear, mounted and balanced. Couldn't justify the cost of the whitewalls. Maybe one day once the bike is completely restored, but for now, these will do.

If you're in the US, Coker is as cheap as you'll find. You might get them on eBay, but even there they tend to get bid up to the full retail price or higher even!

that is indeed the tire!

i was under the impression that the difference between 300 and 325 was 25 millimeters? thats one inch. if its only a quarter inch, my problem is solved.

wifey wants, wifey gets....

I make it up to detroit pretty often so if any of you guys need something shipped and want to just meet in windsor or detroit, maybe even sarnia, just let me know.
