Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid/ Christine: CASE BACK OPEN...

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

bad 'effin ass!! perfect blend of cafe and fighter. very very nice work

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Ah I see what you were talking about with the seat, Tyler. The roundness and speed holes make it, for sure. The transition from curvy tank to square seat flows much more now. Plus with the speed holes elsewhere on the bike, the seat is solidly tied in now. Nice!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Can't say I feel like the seat matches the tank that well. Looks to me like it would be better if it was rounded instead.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Nvgtr...What can I say? I love me a Dunstall! ;D I've got some neoprene inbound for a seat cushion that should help break up the flat seat profile a little, though.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Ha! Chris, I put more thought into that part than anything else on this bike. Perhaps if I'd a thunk a little more it would look real good :D

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

I think it looks great, dude. Sure a hell of a lot better than the dime-a-dozen fighter tail pointing to the sky!

Hey! Louie! Leave that liver alone! ;D

Small progress again today, and certainly nothing photo worthy. I changed out the bunged up LH radiator with a new straight one. Then I cleaned like mad to get this thing presentable. As soon as I get the seat pad finished up, this thing is visually pretty near completion (relative term). Although I did have one thing to ask a DTT opinion about:

I was thinking over and idea with Ringo the other day, about masking a race number-esque number plate on the sides of the aluminum tail, and then glass beading the numbers on to make a frosted number on the polished tail. I did this once on the polished tunnel of a sled, and it turned out pretty cool. The only problem with it was maintaining that look, since you have to very carefully polish around the frosted part when you repolish, or it screws the frosted part up. So in order to facilitate the daily driver aspect of the finish, I have been trying to think of some kind of vinyl or decal graphic to put on the side (number, script, etc) that would work off this idea, and circumvent the beadblasting part. For instance, I was thinking the "DTT" script decal that Twisted is working on as we speak. Any other good ideas out there? Help me out!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Instead of bead blasting or anything like that, why not make it a little deeper. Like maybe outline what you're thinking with a lot of center punches. Or even blast it with some heavy duty shot blasting material? Then just let it get everyday dirt in there.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

That was a early morning "drinking" post. May want to think about it a little more before following it......

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Heh! Not following it per se, but it does give me another avenue to follow. I liked the coarser media bit better than the center punch bit. Thanks, though!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Found some good seat pad material. I was at a sporting goods store in town, and saw some foam for a pad under a weight set or exercise equipment. Got lots for cheap, too! Anyway, I cut out a seat pad and installed tonight. Didn't turn out too bad, either...at least in my opinion.

And you can see some reflection in the bumstop, now, too

Getting closer at any rate.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Nice, I like! I was going to ask why the hell the foam was offset on the vertical portion of the seat back. Then I realized it was a reflection! Shiny man!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

I thnk that looks wicked! (perfect even)! i really dig the cut outs!

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

That really helps tie the "old school" look of the seat to the modern cut of the bike itself. really helps the overall look imo.

Re: Modern cafe, "Project Kool-Aid"...creeping along...

Thanks Diesel! I have to agree that it breaks up some of the aluminum, softens the seat profile. Not sure if the spray adhesive is going to hold yet, but I will try it anyway.

It seems to be pretty comfortable; I think should be good for 30 miles at a time, or so :D
